C ucumbers .—^Make the soil light and rich; raise the hills a few inches above the surrounding surface; place six or eight seeds in each hill about an inch deep, and,if possible, place a sm all frame over them. If a glass frame, so much the better; and if covered w ith gauze, it w ill be beneficial; and even i f not cov ered with anything, the frame will keep off the cold wind and the b ugs, and bring the plants forward much m ore rapidly than those without protection. When covered w ith either glass or gauze, care m ust be taken to afford ven tilation on all warm, sunny days, by tilt ing the fi’ame or glass, but in such a di rection as to keep the wind from blow ing in end chilling the plant?.
