A blaze in the barn belonging to J Franklin Ryan and in the roar of his Meat Market on Friday nigCit gave the firemen and citizen's a halt hour of anxiety and hard work. Mre Armstrong, who resides in one of the apartments In the. Ryan Block, chanc ed to look from one of her windows about 10 o'clock and saw flames is*- suing from a window of the barn. SClB gave the alarm and the fire bell was sounded which quickly brought Vie apparatus and the firemen soon sub dued the flames. Investigation could give no reason for the fire except spontaneous com bustion. The flre Liad evidently start ed under a bale of hay near one of the two stalls and had eaten its way to the celling and found exit through the partly opened window on the east side of the building. Mr Ryans horse was found suffocated and tliete were evidence's of its efforts to escape as it had broken Us halter and lay In the rear of the staV .e.
