Of the bright light in the w-est, which some people have got it in their heads that it was an electric light sent up in a balloon from Rochester, the Amsterdam Recorder says : “ The evening star, Venus, is now at its best. As that planet is is now very nearly at its greatest apparent distance from the sun, over forty-six degrees, she sets very late, being visible about four hours after sunset. Its brightness is such that, were it not for the moon’s in terfering light, it would be found on trial that it would cast a distinct shadow. Venus reached its greatest apparent distance from the sun on the 18th inst. After that this plan et will gradually change in its orbit, going seemingly nearer and nearer to the sun, until, in the latter part of April, it will be lost in his beams, to be seen no more, for a long time, as evening star.
