The program provided the freshmen with the chance to discover and learn about the clubs and activities functioning in the high school. Present at the assembly to inform the freshmen were 1 or 2 representatives from each club. Photo by EGO Driver charged with DWI in fatal auto accident A Carmel woman was killed shortly after 11 p.m. Dec. 26 when her car was involved in a head-on collision with an auto driven by a man who later was charged with driving while intoxicated. The Sheriffs Office identified the victim as Mrs. Barbara Crowley, 26, of the Tilly Foster Apartments in Carmel. Officials said Mrs. Crowley moved to this area a few weeks ago. Deputies said Mrs. Crowley was driving on Rte. 6, near the old Tree Haven Nursing Home in Southeast, when her compact car was involved in the collision with a vehicle driven by Jamison E. Corcoran, 35, of McQuier Court, Brewster. Authorities said Brewster firemen were called to the scene, along with the Brewster and Carmel ambulances. It took nearly an hour to extricate the woman from the wreckage, according to authorities. She had multiple injuries and was dead on arrival at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, the Sheriffs Office reported. Corcoran was taken to the hospital and released after treatment for chest and facial injuries, deputies reported. The Sheriffs Office said Corcoran was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while his license was suspended. He was arraigned before Southeast Town Justice Thomas McKeon and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail. The Sheriffs Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing an investigation into the accident. Marie Paliani starts career Miss Marie Paliani of Mahopac has begun her career in the secretarial field following com- pletion of her studies at The Berkeley School of Westchester, White Plains. Miss Paliani had joined SanMar Laboratories in Elms- ford. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Paliani and a graduate of Mahopac High School. Miss Paliani was enrolled in Berkeley's executive secretarial program, which is designed for the student seeking a secretarial education with general and bus- iness administration courses in- cluded to broaden knowledge of the business community. Film on Dec. 31 Police hunting rapist in Patterson in assault at Mahopac Carmel police are seeking a man who entered a private residence an Curry Rd., Mahopac, Sunday night and raped a young woman in her bedroom. Police said the 21-year-old woman reportedly was at a bar in Brewster Christmas Eve and was dropped off at her house by her escort about midnight. Police said the escort is not a suspect in the case. About 4 hours later the woman was awakened in her bed by a man who then assaulted her and raped her, according to police. After her attacker left, the woman called police. She was taken in the Mahopac ambulance to Putnam. Hospital Center in Carmel where she was treated and released, according to police. Police Chief Charles F. Lewis said the rapist is described as a while male, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. The suspect may have scratch marks on his face and a bite on his hand. Chief Lewis said. Anyone with information concerning the case or ihe suspect is asked to call Carmel police at 628-1300. Chief Lewis said this was the 6th rape in the Carmel-Mahopac area ihis year. Deputies nab Danbury men A Danbury. Ct., driver was Lane, Danbury, was charged with arrested and his passenger was driving while impaired, the charged with possession of cocaine after their vehicle was stopped by sheriffs deputies at 12:37 a.m. Dec. 26 on Rte. 6 in Carmel. Sheriffs Office said. His passenger, George M. Ballas, 22, of 39 Jackson Drive, Danbury, was charged with possession of cocaine and vio- lation of the open container law, deputies said explanation of the club they represented. The assembly was a good experience and I think that many questions the freshmen may have had concerning school activities were answered. The assembly was a unique and interesting way of providing information to the Class of '86 and proved to be a success. At the conclusion of the assembly, the freshmen were treated to cupcakes baked by the Honor Society. The film, \If I Should Die\ will be shown at Patterson Baptist Church on Dec. 31, at the 9 p.m. watch night service. This film examines life-after- death experiences and asks: Are they real or simply hallucinations of a dying brain? Why are these encounters always positive and non-judgmental? BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Robert G, Curtis of Mahopac announce the birth of a daughter, Diana Lindsay, on Dec. 15 at Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco. The in- fant weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas C. Yanni and Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Curtis of Somers.
