Thursday, December 23,1982 THE BREWSTER STANDARD-ESTABLISHED 1869 PAGE SEVEN OBITUARIES FRANCES N.LEDLEY Mrs. Frances Newman Ledley, 82, of Oak St., Brewster, died Dec. 16 at Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne, after a long illness. The widow of James A. Newman, who died in 1960, she later married Jack Ledley, who died in 1968. Mrs. Ledley was born in Armonk, Aug. 29,1900, daughter of the late Richard and Anna Smidline Bradsell. She attended Valhalla schools, and lived in the Bronx before moving to Brewster more than 40 years ago. Mrs. Ledley was the house- keeper at St. Lawrence O'Toole Rectory, Brewster, before her recent retirement. She was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church and Court Beraadine, Catholic Daughters. Mrs. Ledley was also a member of the Southeast Senior Citizens, Brew- ster Grange and the District Nursing Assn. She is survived by 2 sons, James T. Newman of Yonkers, and William J. Newman of Bristol, Ct.; a daughter, Sister Miriam Theresa of St. Pius Convent, the Bronx; a step- daughter, Miss Agnes Ledley of Los Angles, Calif.; 6 grand- children; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster. Carols, candles at Drew church The stirringly beautiful \Ser- vice of Carols and Candles,\ a tradition of Drew United Metho- dist Church on Gleneida Ave. in Carmel, will be given at. 7:30 and 11 P.M. on Christmas Eve. Forty red and white memorial poinsettias will grace the richly carved altar and reredos as the 2 blue-robed handbell choirs and the 25-voice Chancel Choir lead in the glorious music of the Christ- mas season. This year there will be 10 minutes of singing of favorite carols by the congregation. Three ministers will read the traditional scripture lessons: Pas- tors AI Miller and Walter Car- penter, and guest liturgist, the Rev. Nancy Hawes, pastor of St. Susan R. Winter wed in Mahopac Susan R. Winter of 219 Center St., Mahopac, was married to Frank W. Kotzur in ceremonies Dec. 16 in the First Presbyterian Church in Mahopac Falls. The Rev. Conrad Putzig, pastor, officiated at the ceremony. Deborah Smjth of Hopewell Junction was the maid of honor and Thomas Rosenkranz of Mahopac was the best man. Mr. and Mrs. Kotzur own the Brewster Flower Garden on Main St., Brewster, which Mrs. Kotzur manages. Her husband is an electrical engineer with Wind- ings Inc. in Goldens Bridge. ENROLLED AT BERKELEY Miss Denise Nault of Carmel will begin her studies in Sept- ember at the Berkeley School of Westchester, White Plains. Miss Nault will be enrolled in Ber- keley's intensive secretarial pro- gram, which is designed to provide the student in as short a time as possible with the tech- nical skills required of an efficient secretary. Daughter of Wilfred and Catherine Nault, Miss Nault is a graduate of Carmel High School. John's A.M.E. Zion Church of Bethlehem, Pa., and sister of Drew's Musical Director, William Hawes. The service will conclude with the lighting of the candles held by each worshipper during the sing- ing of \Silent Night.\ Everyone in the community is welcome. No reservations are needed. Babysitting is provided for infants through 3-year-olds at the 7:30 service. Gilead church yule service The traditional Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, at Gilead United Presbyterian Church, Seminary Hill Rd., Carmel. The Senior and the Junior Choirs will offer special anthems, and seasonasl contributions will be made by the organist, pianist and violinists. The Congregation will sing some of the beloved carols during the service of scripture and prayer, which will conclude with the candlelight ceremony. Everyone is welcome to this service which is timed particu- larly for those who may wish to worship earlier on Christmas Eve because of youngsters. Methodists set yule eve rites There will be a candlelight worship service at the Tompkins Corners Methodist Church Dec. 24 at il p.m. in a setting as it was in ihe 19th century. Everyone is welcome at the old historic church, built in 1891. The church is located on PeeKskill Hollow Rd., 1 mile west of the Taconic Parkway in Put- nam Valley. CANDLELIGHT SERVICES Christmas Eve candlelight ser- vices will be held at 7 and 11 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church on Gomer St., Yorktown Heights. The services will be lead by Pastor Timothy Kennedy. Special music will be provided by the choir. CHRISTMAS AT MEMORIAL HALL—Daniel J. O'Brien VFW Post staged Its annual Christmas party for youngsters this past weekend at Memorial Hall in Carmel.
