A 1976 graduate of Empire State College's Lower Hudson Regional Center, Ms. Corcos was honored for her leadership in organizing the Lower Hudson Student/Alumni Assn. and for her support of alumni activities statewide. In citing her contributions, which include governance and fund-raising activities, as well as organizing discussions, recitals and an annual arts festival, college president, James Hall mentioned that Ms. Corcos had brought a uniquely personal touch to her support for the school by writing an individual letter of congratulations to every graduate of the Lower Hudson Center. \Some people paint for a hobby,\ said Ms. Corcos, \but since I paint for a living, the ESC alumni are my hobby.\ Although Ms. Corcos fits her alumni activities into a schedule at Empire State College, the nontraditional branch of the State University of New York. Like many of the school's students, whose average age is 37, she received academic credit for knowledge acquired outside the classroom. CHRYSTAL CORCOS already filled with teaching and her own artistic pursuits, she doesn't think that's unusual. \It's always busy people who volunteer,\ she says. Ms. Corcos was working full- time and already an awarding winning artist when she enrolled Senior citizens honor William Koehler of Mahopac received 2 awards last Friday, from the Senior Citizens of the Mahopacs. Koehler, who has served as president of the organi- zation of the past 4 years, was presented with a bronze plaque of appreciation for \sincere and devoted effort.\ The group also recognized his volunteer service in other com- munity organizations with a \Man of the Year\ award. The citation read, \To William \Bill\ Koehler, who has served his community with compassion, faithfulness, integrity, sincerity and unequalled energy and love.\ Representatives of the Sal- vation Army, A.A.R.P, Putnam County Office of the Aging and Friends of Hope Town, were on hand to pay tribute to the man who serves as an enthusiastic and dedicated n ember on their ' boards. One of th<_ seniors said, \you can tell a lot about Bill Koehler by just looking at his car.\ First of all, there is an American flag on the radio pntenna. He is an active member of the Steuben Society of America, John Robling Unit 306 of Carmel, which promotes patriotism in the United States. On the back of his car is a bumper sticker which reads, \one heart for children.\ Not only did he spearhead the $25,000 fund drive for physical therapy equip- ment for the abandoned, handi- capped children of Hope Town School, the \seasoned citizen,\ as he calls himself, personally raised over $1,900 in sponsor- ships by walking the entire 10 miles in the walk-a-thon. He has also organized and sponsored DeMolay groups and was recently honored in New York City for organizing a Boy Scout Troop for handicapped youth in 1953. He still hosts an annual picnic for present members of the troop at his home on Scout Hill Rd.
