Sup- reme Court Judge Fred Dickinson of Carmel, president of the BHS Class of 1932, was among the 50-year graduates who returned Sunday for a reunion. Patricia Kenny, president of the Class of 1982, welcomed guests to the graduation. Stu- dents speakers included Herman Jenich, valedictorian; Geoffrey Luck, salutatorian; Theresa Mulhern, honors, and Sandra Peters, top careers graduate. Dr. Robert J. Meyer, principal, presented the 228 graduates and conferal of graduates was by Dr. James A. Monk, superintendent of schools. Walter Pearson, presi- dent of the Board of Education, and Dr. John A. Daly, senior counselor, presented the dip- lomas. There was a spiritual acknow- ledgement by the Rev. Owen K. Gartland, administrator of St. Lawrence O'Toole Roman Catholic Church, and a special farewell by the Rev. Grace DiBiccari, evangelist of Grace 'n Vessels of Christ. Honored for service to the school district were Dr. Daly, for 30 years of service; Coach Lind- say North am, 20 years, and business teacher Mary Jane Murphy, 19 years. Mental health clinic relocated A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the Putnam County Mental Health Clinic, now relocated at 21 Old Rte. 6, Carmel. County Executive David D. Bruen performed the ribbon-cutting. Among the guests were County Legislator Robert Bondi, Council- man Joseph Lyons of Southeast, Ms. Toni Yerkes from the N.Y. State Regional Office, and Gerald Ehrlich, Ph.D., chairman of the Community Services Board. Ms. Katie Hoekstra, said she hopes people of Putnam County will join the new \Friends\ of the mental health clinic in a volunteer effort to support and maintain the clinic's quality services. She stated, \This is a clinic wherein the highest standards of mental health services delivery are the norm.\ A major focus of the \Friends\ group will be \to work toward increasing community awareness and acceptance of the role and importance of Mental Health Services.\ Commissioner of Mental Health for Putnam County, Pat- AIRMAN JAMES M. GRADY, son of Thomas J. and Vicky L. Grady of Brewster, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, after com- pleting Air Force basic train- ing. The airman will now receive specialized instruction in the aircraft maintenance field. He is a 1981 graduate of North Salem High School. ricia 1. Wolke, praised the quality of work of the clinic's staff and beamed as she said, \We serve an exclusive population, only the residents of Putnam County.\ Dr. Ehrlich, spoke of the need for support for mental health services and of the preventive aspect which Impacts upon the community at large. Special guest Louisa Burns- Bisogno, author of the TV play, \My Body, My Child,\ drew upon her personal life experi- ences with family and friends to drive home the importance of having mental health services for those people who cannot afford the high fees of the private market. She said it was time for people to cast off old outdated beliefs that mental health was only for crazy people,. \The community needs to be educated about what mental health services are about,\ she said. She urged the community residents to become active advo- cates of the mental health clinic as she, herself, became a charter member of the Friends of Mental Health Clinic. Run Away group meets July 6 The next board meeting of the RunAway of Putnam will be held on Tuesday, July 6, at 7:15 p.m. in Room 315 of the Putnam County Office Building in Carmel. The RunAway program, which is funded by the Putnam County Youth Bureau and the New York State Division for Youth, is looking for individuals to help with hotline services, fund raising volunteers, and host home vol- unteers. No special training is needed, just an interest in our youth and their problems. If you are interested in serving on any of these committees, call Hans Schlange at 225-3641, ext. 266. Photos by EGO Suspect held in cash theft A suspect was arrested June 24 by Deputy Sheriff Charles Moore and sheriffs investigators in connection with the theft of $48 from a cash drawer in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles at the Putnam County OffiS* Building. When he was arrested.- the suspect was found to be in possession of fireworks, the Sheriffs Office said. Kladis Nicholas, 30, of Rte. 22, Patterson, was charged with petit larceny and unlawful dealing in fireworks. Investigators said Nicholas was talking to an employee in the Motor Vehicle Bureau about his driver's license application. When the employee went to get Information from another part of the office, Nicholas allegedly reached over the counter and took $48 in cash fr 0 \ 1 a :!iN^gi^^accOi<dIng to investigates,*'/* , v The theft was discovered a short time after Nicholas left. However, he inadvertently left some papers at the Motor Vehicle Bureau and he was arrested when 'he returned later to retrieve ihem, investigators said. After his arrest, he was found to be in possession of fireworks, the Sheriffs Office said. Health care The Teenage Health Care Committee of the Putnam County Youth Board will meet on Mon- day. July 12, at 10 a.m. in Room 315 of the County Office Building in Carmel. Plans for the proposed youth health fairs to be hejd in Putnam County high schools in the tall will be discussed. The goal of the Health Fairs is to familiarize youth with community programs and support services available to them.
