Historic Oakdale site proposed for development The bones of Revolutionary War soldiers , Native Americans and possibly slaves rest in the woodlands adjoin- ing Saint John ' s Episcopal Church in Oakdale , according to Father Robert Taylor and Keith Snedecor , a local history buff. Now the West Sayville Fire Department , which purchased the 4.8 acre parcel from the Episcopal diocese in the 1970s , is applying for a change of zone so that a developer can build 66 apartments on the site. Confronted with postings of an Islip Town Planning Board hearing scheduled for May 15 and a letter from the attor- neys for the developers , Metro Group Construction Corp, two local groups reacted quickly to organize opposition. The Oakdale Civic Association , which held a meeting on Please turn to page 25 Connetquot meets the candidates Five candidates faced a crowded room in a well organized , extremely civil , three-hour ' meet the candidates ' night at the Connetquot High School last week. The event was moderated by Carlos Cunha , social sciences chairman at Dowling College. Three candidates , Michele Levine , John Capolongo and Robert Martin , are running for the seat vacated by Cliff Schmidt. Levine has been a physical education teacher in other districts for 27 years , Capolongo works at a chemi- cal laboratory and Martin for State Farm Insurance. Two candidates , Barbara Brodsky and Fran Hohenberger , are squaring off for the seat formerly held by Michael Mahoney. Richard Miesmer , who had declared for the same seat , withdrew on April 30.
