He returned the kickoff ,85 yards, speeding down the :side- nn.es, eilldingonetackle ,after 'another. les the second time Senese has scored on the kickoff. He ,also played ,great defense, making three interceptions. The Flashes are now 3-4 and will end their season next 'Saturday at Islip. Thegarne :started 'Off with Senese~s :spectacu- lar touchdown, Brendan LYIlch's two pointer givinlt th'e Flashes an early 8-0 lead.. The Porters :are a team that practically passes on every down, and in quarterback Joe Gordon they have '3 player who does everything: pass, kick and run, a one man gang. With Gordon throwing the ball from the shotgun formation, the P()rte~advanced down the field on passes to Paul Kayel and Tim Simmons and found themselves on 'Sayville\s '22-yard line. Here Ryan Cox made a fine defensive play, tossing Gordon for ,a big loss and stopping the drive. Then, with Lynch carrying the ball and an Eric Webber pass to Mike Hart, the Flashes advanced to the 30, but a fumble, recovered by the Porters, :stopped the drive. The qoarter ended with the Flashes on top, 8-0. Starting the second quarter, Senese, took a handoff from Webber and tossed a perfect pass to Jim Molloy, good for 40 yards down to the t.hree-yard line. Lynch bucked over for the touchdown, no extra pOint, but it was now 14- o. After a Gordon pass for afllSt down, Senese intercepted on the 30 for Sayville. A Webber pass to Molloy and a 15-yard run by Webber was good fora first down on the 30 before the drive was stopped. Here Gordon took over and,a 30-yard run put the Porters deep in Sayville territory. A 15~yard penalty and a Gordon pass to Simmons put the ball on the Sayville one~yard line. On the next play, Gordon fumbledafte'r being hit, and again Senese recovered on the seven-yard line. Minutes later, Cox intercept- ed and sped 50 yards to the Greenp()rt 15. Here LYllCh scored again, andGreg D'Antoni added the extra point from placement, run- ning the score up to 21-0. The thlrd quarter featured another fumble recovery by Senese and a 35-:yardrun by Cox for the rmalSayville touchdown. Cox, ajuniot:, is going to be outstanding next year for the Flashes. Coach Lee VanVoorhees, for the most part, used his reserves in the final quarter, which ·saw Gordon score on a dive for their sixpomts. The game ended soon after and the happy parents went home in a good frame of mind. We would Uke to thank Sal Senese and his Golden Flash Boosters Club for dedicating the footballjournal in my name.
