Howard No longer able to contend with the teenagers drinking and hanging out outside their houses, the residents of one Bayport neighoorhood are doing something to restore the peace. Around 60 people who live near Bayport-Blue Point mgh School met last Friday night at the Bayport Firehouse to voice their concerns and fannulate an action plan. So far, all they have is another meeting date, October 14 at 7 p.m. in the Bayport Firehouse. But the contacts and exchange of ideas between neighbors, plus the joint efforts of an entire neighborhood, will be the meeting's lasting value. \I think this went great and I hope it\s going to wake the whole community up,\ said Ralph Silverthorne, one of the meeting's organizers. Most of the 75 minute meeting was taken up by war sto- ries, residents sharing their experiences about damaged cars and homes, stolen property, teenagers drinking alcohol, cars racing and loud noise into the night and early morning. -I'm not saying that all of the kids are responsible, but a lot of things have been going on in the neighborhood and a lot of it's related, .. organizer Charlie Zigrosser told the residents. One resident, referring to the August 1993 shooting death of a Holbrook teen by a 25-year-old Bayport man in a Holbrook park, said that problem goes beyond noise and property damage. ·We're not just dealing with vandalism. In her ruling last Friday, Johnson upheld five specific objections to the two petitions. One proposal cal1s for the establishment of geographic town council districts that individual town board members would specifically represent, similar to congressional or state legisla- tive districts.
