Patrick Higgins, 42., of Blrchdale Dri~, Holbrook,. w~ riding his 1979 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Sunrise Highway, with his wife, Barbara Landi, 39, a passenger. Higgins apparently lost control of the motoroyele, according to police., overturned and slid along the pavement near tb·e William Floyd Parkw~ overpass. Both Higgins and Landi were rushed to University Hospital at Stony BiOOk, where Higgins was pronounced dead at .9:14p.m. His wife remains hospibdized in serious condition, suffering mUltiple lower extremicy injuries. Officer Scot :Devine was c~.lled to Good Shepherd Roman Catholic ChW'ch on Grundy Avenue at 8:20 a.m. last Wednesd~ after church officials dis- covered the crime. IRitial investigation . at the :sceaerevealed that someone had .Shattered a hnt glass door in order to break into the dlurch building some- time after 10:40 p.m. the prior night. After taking approzimately $100 cash from the building, according ro police, the burglars then vandalized the church interior, causing over $2,000 damage. Gardening tools were stolen during another Holbrook b1.Q1lary last week on F1axwood Drive~ Poliee were called to a house there at 1:30 p.m. 11lursday after the homeowaer found that .some- one had broken into a storage sited located to the rear of his home. The burglars stole a lawn mower and a lawn edger sometime between 8 p.m. 'Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thwsday. Residential burglaries At least 30 residential burglaries, oconring in 15 communities across the . Fifth Precinct, were reporred to police last week.
