TOWN MIGHT LAY ROAD IF LAND WERE DEDICATED BY PERSONS BENEFITTED The fact that the feasibility of cutting a new road through from Greene Avenue to Candee Aveaue some 400 feet south, of Main Street , ? Sayville , and opening up \tack yard\ land for building purposes had been considered by local pr operty holders was revealed on Tuesday at the regular pub- lic meeting or tne islip t own Board. The project became known when Supervisor Charles H. Duryea an- nounced it had been mentioned to him for consideration by .local business men . He asked Justice of Uie Peace D. Or- monde Ritchie , a member of the board antl an attorney, for an opinion on whether or iiot the town could .secure by purchase a parcel of land on Can- dec Avenue owned by heirs of llie late Miss . Melissa * Carpenter which is needed for the eastern terminus of the proposed street. Supervisor Duryea. in asking Jud ge Ritch ie . for an opinion , said tliat he did- not believe Islip town , operating as it does under the 'laws governing Sec- ond Class Towns , could acquire the property inasmuch as such towns can- not .spend more * than $500 on tlie ac- quisition of land , forr road purposes. He:later commented he believed if the property owners :who would benefit bought the ' . .Carpenter property and offered to dedicate it and other needed roadbed , ths town would accept it for highway purposes and lay out thc road. Yesterday, howevex , Frederick W: Tuck Jr. , Sayville attorney, who repre- sents interested property holders , said the entire plan had been dropped. He also said that David Fox , who recently acquired 85 feet' on Greene Avenue that would be the logical west- ern terminus for . such a road , and who owiis a considerable part of . th^3 '/\baelc- yaru \ lii-opel' t^ in .dedicating , ' any ' lit nd for road pur- poses, If thc road were laid out it would run between the Candce Avenue home of Harry Skinner and the house now oc- cupied by Italph Berger which was at one time the home of Dr. G.
