Flo rida Disaster Fails To Halt Montauk Work In spite of rumors circulated throu ghout eastern Long Island that the Montauk development of Carl G. Fisher would be abandoned because of the Florida disaster , work Is going at full tilt in the Montauk section and there has been no change in the plans. When the Florida news came Mr. Fisher went at once to look after his immense pro perti es there. He left word for the Montauk force to be ready at a moment' s notice to close the Montauk operations and proceed aX once to Florida. On hia arrival Mr. Fisher found the reports of the devas- tation exaggerated and wired to keep on with the Montauk development , as there was no occasion for a removal of the force to Florida. Rumors frightened residents of the section into believing that 1.500 men were, laid off And all work on the Montauk develop- ment would be indefinitel y postponed. S. C.
