The process- ion was reformed and immediatel y pro- ceeded to department head quarters where a li g ht repast had been spread b y the firemen for the visitors , under the supervision of Mr . Wilbur Morrell. After partaking of the eatables and drinkables , the Post , left at once for Patchogue . It was the intent of the committee to carry out a program of speech making in the center of the village , a platform having been erect- ed in Sparrow Park for that purpose , bu t the commander of the Patchogue Post stated that the members were com n elled to return to Patchogue as soon as possible , and the exercises at the Park were interfered with in conse- quence. It was finall y decided to go ahead with the exercises without the Post , as the peop le had congregat ed to hear the speeches , but in the hurry cf the moment , the committe e failed to connect on time and the peo- p le were , disap pointed. The following program had been prepared: Sing- ing— \Star S pang led Banner , \ Miss Eva Crum. Prayer Rev. Th. Doug las. Addresses—Rev. J. H. Prescott , Rev.T. D. Littlewoo o \ , Rev. Th. Douglas. The committee regret that this piogram was not carried out It was arran ged to have the procession halt in front of S qarrow Park , where the exercises were to have been comp leted , but as the visitors were compelled to leave hurriedly, it caused confusion for which no one was to blame . The following soldiers went from Sayville and fought in the Rebellion : James Baker , John Crum , Sy lvester Knapp , Lewis H. Noe , Obediah \ Green , Henry Miller , Terry Bedell , Herman Smith , Daniel Aldrich Jr . , John Longworth , Isaac Howell , Smith J. Noe, George Brown and Car- man Seaman. Six of this number are buried in Union Cemetery. Ten other veterans have moved in the p lace since the war. NOTES. The de c orations of some of the priv - ate houses along the line of march were very striking. J/aster James Nohow eo , dressed in firemen ' s uniform , occup ied a position at the head of the rope on the truck. Both show windows frontin g the Grand Central were handsomel y dress- ed and attracted great attention. A miniature truck , flags , eag le , shield and a large tablet on which was writ ten three appropriate verses selected from well-known poets comprised the dis- p lay. It will not take a Yankee to g uess that it was the handiwork of J/r. Tred Rogers. Among the noticable feature along the line of march was ex-editor Haw- kins taking notes , presumabl y for some city paper. He used the railing of the Foster House stoop for an editorial chair and his knee for a table.
