Disaster uv Kew York Harbor. An appallin g dis aster litis just taken place in Xew York liay, the s chooner Mol l nr foundering within signal of Sand y Hook. By a squttll tho vessel wa s thr own on her bea m ends , and filled nnd s unk at once. One sailor was wash- ed overboard , the others succeeded iu gettin g into the riggi n g. The scbuouer was su uk on her beam ends and was lurchin g over from side to side with the force of the waves , and the miserable sur- vivors were every moment p lunged be. neath the b oiling waters , onl y to reap- pea r nnd be. again plunged down. This position could not be maintained fcr ten minutes, when suddenly the schooner ri g hted , and the masts resumed their upri ght position. This was only com- puvutivti misery, f or the men were dren ched to tbo skin and their garments were frozen n roun d them almost i ui- mediate! v. The- giilo onl y seemed to increase in violence , and every now and then th e w aves dntihed up over their heads , and sc attered the spray in a million frozen particles upon them. The night was? pitch dark and nothing could be seen bnt th e dim li g ht on Sandy Hook Point. The cold was intense , and so benurued the men that it was with the greatest ef- forts they were enabled to make any moti on. As well ns could be calculated the accident had occurred about half .way between theBomer and the pointer th e Hook. Situated as the fonr men were , it wns eviden t to them thnt tli c;- could not live l ong iu such ti position. The cold , however was so great , that their limbs became benumbed every mo- ment , aud it re quired au effort to de- tach them from the ropes which sus- tained th em. The captain , in e ndeavor- ing t o cut the foresail hal-yard s , had his hand frozen , and he was obli ged every moment to chan ge his position and beat his hands und members to pre vent thezu getting frozen. The mate (Bobbins) and he would beat each other about tho body to keep the blood in circulation . The third sailor (Venue) was in another part of the riggin g and resortei to the sam e ni\ .tns to preserve his life. The steward suffered most , and appeared to g ivis way under the ter rible ordeal of his sufl' eriugs. Had it n ot been for the cap- tain and ma te he would have, allowed himself to drop into the sea. lie , in- deed , hardly seemed to re alize his dead- l y position. Captain Brown endeavored to encoura ge him and made every effort to prevent his sinking int o dispnir; but it was to little purpose. Findin g that he c ould not keep np long, the two others resolved to place him in such a posi tion that he could not fall. Tliay beat him on the head and bre a^l . to res tore cironl' i- tion , and then with great difficulty they pulled Vis legs (whieh wore quite stiff) round and planed them over a cross tree , with his back to tho m ast , and made him secure. A t this time the man appeared to have h a rdly any sensibility left. In this manner the time passed on , and the steward only uttered a word occa- sionally, begging the other s to let him die. At about sis . o ' clock he talked no moro ntu ' i bad become nhcouscioua. The eupt iiin and mntu , even forgetting their own Hnfl' KringB continu ed to g ive him n earl y nil their att ention until it became apparent that lie c ould not be revived.
