June, 1977 Four years ago, there was a vacant lot at'the comer ol Academy and Main streets. Today, a very attractive library graces the comer. Complete with land scaped lawn, trees. perennM flower bed, and ivied walls, the Greenwich Free library has come a long way. The Friends of the Library, ¡aid other concerned citizens, have concentrated on making the little brick building a pretty spot as well as a center of information and recreation Individuals donated the trees* flowers, and >-hrubs. Other persons donated their time in 'metalling and maintaining the border garden. Even the cost of the black top lor the driveway and parking lot was partially donated by a friend- of the library. While individuals have helped to improve the appearance of the build ing, the library is still dependent on funding from - the Greenwich school budget for its operating costs.
