Each county has organized asymp tomatic testing opportunities through out the region. In addition, the counties have partnered with Finger Lakes Com munity Health (FLCH) to add additional asymptomatic testing opportunities in more locations. Victor-Farmington Ambulance will add a site in Ontario County. Testing availability for asymptomat- ic people has been chal- fg. tk lenging for these commu- nities, said Mary Beer, 11 public health director of Ontario County, with Efes &isa many who seek testing Beer having to make lengthy trips to Monroe County. Deb Minor, public health director of Yates County, and county officials said they are thankful FLCH has expanded its hours to support the effort. “ We ’ ve heard from so many of our residents that it is difficult for asymp tomatic individuals to get a COVID-19 test, ” Minor said. Ontario County will conduct testing for any asymptomatic individual at the County Transportation Center, 2930 County Road 48, Hopewell, from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Victor-Farmington Ambulance will have testing from 9 a.m. to II a.m. Wednesdays at its facility, 1321 East Victor Road, Victor. Case in point: Finger Lakes winery Forge Cellars is ranked on Wine Spec tator's Top 100 List of 2020. The pres tigious list, announced Dec. 14, fea tures the most exciting wines from re gions around the world. It is not meant to be a shopping list, but rather a guide to wineries to watch in the future. Forge's 2018 Classique Dry Riesling was ranked 31st, which is interesting for several reasons. First, it is the win ery's workhorse wine, made from grapes from several vineyards and priced at under $20 a bottle. Second, the 2015 Classique achieved the same rank in 2017. Finally, by many accounts, 2018 was not a good vintage for the Finger Lakes. \Eighteen was horrific,\ said Rick Rainey, who co-owns Forge Cel lars in Benton, along with French wi nemaker-grower Louis Barruol. \Local guys will get tears in their eyes talking about how brutal 2018 was.\ In mid-August, a slow-moving storm dumped a whopping 6 to 9 inch es of rain in parts of Schuyler County, where Forge Cellars is located. Some local farmers said it was the worst flood in the area since 1972. Shortly after 5 a.m. on Aug. 14, Rai ney drove through the storm, heading to the winery. ” It was like the end of the world, ” he said. He drove at a crawl as he passed \colossal washout after col ossal washout after colossal washout.\ Flash flooding washed out bridges, submerged vehicles and clogged roads with debris. The flood took out a bridge on Forge's property, and it also was hard on the grapevines. \The vines were just kind of beat up,\ Rainey said. The damage and wet conditions made them prone to dis ease.
