The Times concludes that it is about time something was being done to stop the young rascals in their down- ward career. - -Olean Times: E. Upton, the Rochester bank defaulter, is reported to have said that the cause of his ruin was the elec- tiic storm of November 19. While. W. D. Smith, a merchant was showing a customer some oysters which he kopt ou:- side the door, a mass of frozen snow and ice weighing about sixty pounds, became de- tached from the eaves and in falling knocked Mr. Smith senseless, while his customer Chas, Banks, who was bonding over, the box at the time, was caught between the edge of the box and the falling mass in such a shape that his skull was crushed. This evening we are compelled to réport another tragedy, which occurred in this coun- ty, near Belmont, yesterday, the 27th. Yes- terday morning, William Withey, who re- sides within @bout three miles of Belmont, in some way secured a piece of rope, and care- fully adjusting it to his neck, swung himself off into eternity, He was about 65 years of - age. e i According to reports, Mr: Withey had been acting strangely for some time past.. Within two years He was married to a young wife. Whether they lived happily together, we have not the means of knowing. However, while suffering under some delusion, he sold off a part of his farm, ffiggining, perhaps, - | that be would ultimately end up in the poor bouse.
