Slide Stored Ca. Ithaca, June 4.—The intercollegiate rowing regatta, which was scheduled to have been held on the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie on July 1, has been shifted to be held on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca on Saturday, June 19, it' was announced here late yesterday by Charles E. Treman, Cornell mem ber of the Board of Stewards of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association. The reason for the change is based largely on the refusal of the \West Shore Railroad to provide an observa tion train for the Poughkeepsie course nnd also because tlie faculty of the University of Pennsylvania declined to permit its crews to row as late as July 1. Inasmuch as these reason’s prevailed the management of the various uni versities having entrants in the regatta did not wish, it was stated, here, to spend the time and to be subject to the expenses involved in waiting until July 1 to hold the regatta at Pough keepsie. On account of tho tidal conditions prevailing on the Hudson at Pough keepsie, if the races could not be rowed there on July-1, it was pointed out, the next earliest date favorable for the re gatta would bo June 14, which is in the midst of the final term examina tions in Cornell. The Cornell University Athletic As sociation, therefore, through Graduate Manager Berry, extended an invitation to the Board of Stewards to hold the regatta on Cayuga Lake on June 19, alumni day, and the invitation, it was officially announced .has been accepted by Messrs. Treman of Cornell, Charles Hapes of Columbia, and John Ar thur Brown of Pennsylvania, compris ing the Board of Stewards. Columbia, Cornell, Pennsylvania and Syracuse will have varsity, junior var sity and freshmen crews in the re gatta and the United States Naval Academy has been invited to enter crews. Owing to the fact that tho Cayuga Lake course is a still water course in stead of a tidal ono the race will be over a two-mile course, instead of three miles as originally planned for the varsity race. Poughkeepsie Course Used Since 1895. New Xork, June 4.—All previous races of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association have been held over the Poughkeepsie Highlands course on the Hudson River opposite Poughkeepsie with the exception of one year. In 1S98 the three-mile varsity and two- mile freshman events were rowed at Saratoga Lake. Tho first rnce at Poughkeepsie, a four-mile event, was won in 1S95, by Columbia. The first freshman race, held in 1S96, wns won by Cornell over a two-mile course. The first varsity four race, rowed in 1S99, was won by Pennsylvania. The initial junior varsity race over a two-mile conrse was inaugurated in 1914, replacing the varsity four-oared event, and was won by Cornell. Navy Declines Invitation. Annapolis, Md., June 4.—Navy has received an invitation to compete In the intercollegiate rowing regatta but the rowing authorities at the acad- emysaid today that it would not be considered for the reason that oarsmen already have broken training and are taking a rest preparatory to starting training for the national regatta at Worcester, Mass., next month. The \Worcester meet will be the final try-out for the Olympic regatta, it was added, and inasmuch as the men had been working hard since Febru ary, it was deemed essential that they should have a rest before beginning training on June 15 for the Worcester contest.
