C h ristoflerson was strapped in the scat of thc machine and as the plane struck th c w a ter it overturned, leaving thc a v ia t o r head downward beneath thc surface. He unbuckled thc four straps th a t held him ami after being sub m e rged for more than a m inute came to the surface again, lie was taken out of th e w a ter by life savers.
