Y—TUESDAY, MAY 22, 1951 ,1 ' Garrows 1-Hitter Hands PSTC 8-0 Win Over Albany Cardinals Rap Ten Three in 3rd for 2 Runs, Four in 9th for Six Plattsburgh State Teachers Col- lege blanked Albany State 8-0 yes- terday at the capital city as Bob Garrow unwound a brilliant one- hitter. It was the Cardinals second triumph in four starts. MacDonald spoiled Garrow's no- hitter with a solid double in the fifth after the Redbirds scored two runs in the third for the edge. PSTC chased Albany starter Haus- ner from the hill in the ninth with a four hit barrage that produced six additional tallies. In the second. Forgione reached first on an error, went to third on Ryan's single and' scored on Joe Fedele's one-bagger. Garrow brought Ryan home with his first single. PSTC mixed its four hits m the flnai frame with three walks, an error, a passed ball, and a wild pitch. Hits were rapped by For- gione, Carpenter, Mclntyre and Yando. The New York Negro toyed with his ri- val for four rounds and then tossed some hefty punches in- the fifth. Marcel's handlers quickly threw in the towel. The end came after 57 seconds of the fifth while Marcel, French mid- dleweight champion, was still on his feet and apparently unhurt. Robinson 1 obviously meant business, however, and Marcel's handlers de- cided to take no chances on their fighter getting hurt. A slim crowd of about 6,000 was on hand in the Palace of Sports to sec Robinson make his first appear- ance of his current European tour. The defeat was a heartbreaker for Overmire. The little southpaw and Raschi were locked in a score- less duel going into the sixth inning when the Yanks broke loose. With two out. Hank Bauer drib- bled the ball down the third base line. The Browns elected to let the ball roll and it stayed fair. Joe Di- 'Magglo and Berra followed with singles to score Bauer. WILLJAMS' 2-RUN BLAST GIVES SOX 9-7 DECISION made merry for seven runs in the third inning yesterday but needed Ted Williams' two run homer in the seventh to pull out a 9-7 victory over the Detroit Tigers who outhlt the Sox 10-9.
