Ruggero comes to North Babylon having most recently served as principal o f Waverly Av enue Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District, prior to which he was assistant prin cipal o f Seneca Middle School His career in education began as a math teacher in 1998, and he was at Sachem for the past 17 years. Ruggero holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, a master’s degree in secondary education, and advanced certificates in School Building Leader and School District Leader. John Ruggero Karina Vartanian w ins Usdan scholarship West blip High School freshman Karina Vartanian was recently awarded a semifinalist scholarship for the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts in Wheatley Heights. Seibert named 2018 Nathaniel Conklin Award winner Frank Seibert, a 32-year resident o f Baby lon Village, was named the 2018 Nathaniel Conklin Award Winner, the awards com mittee announced this week. The Nathanial Conklin Award was cre ated to recognize the spirit of volunteerism in Babylon Village. Yearly recipients are selected by a group of previous Conklin Award winners. “Frank was a very worthy recipient be cause o f all of his work through the Rotary Club,” said Judy Skillen, a member of the nominating committee. “His work with the literacy and reading program, outreach pro gram and feeding ministry has benefitted the quality of life for Babylon Village and the surrounding area.” Karen Petz, the committee chair, agreed saying Seibert was a wonderful selection. “He was selected based on his volunteerism and for his work for the betterment of Baby lon for years,” she said. Seibert and his wife Carol have two daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca, who live out o f state. He has a bachelor of arts in political science and a master’s degree in human resource management from Stony Brook. He also earned a master’s degree in language and literacy from City Col lege of New York. Professionally, he has worked in the in surance industry for 40 years as an agent, broker and risk manager and holds sev eral insurance certifications. He has been a member of the Village’s architectural review and planning boards and currently serves on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He joined the Babylon Rotary Club in 1994 and served in many capacities, includ ing its president He was assistant governor from 2012 to 2017. He is also a volunteer with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts, Babylon Lions Club, Historical Soci ety and the Village’s coalition to assist those affected by Superstorm Sandy “Certainly this is an honor,” said Seibert, when asked about his feelings at being named this year’s Nathaniel Conklin Award winner. “I have done volunteer service for many years, and I am very appreciative of the recognition and looking forward to it” Seibert will be honored at a special event at the Nathan iel Conklin House in the fall. The reception is by invita tion. Frank Seibert Longtime Babylon Village Clerk Pat Carley retires Jean Marie Parker assumes Carley s role as Village Clerk by Carolyn James Jean Marie Parker was appointed Village Clerk in Babylon, replacing longtime clerk Patricia Carley, who retired. Parker has lived in Babylon for 40 years. Prior to ac cepting the position in Babylon, she worked for the Babylon School District for 25 years as a reading aide, library aide and clerical assistant. “I guess you could say I was a jack o f all trades,” she said laughing. Parker began working for the Village a year ago in the building department and began her training as clerk in the clerks office in April. “I feel confident b u t I know I have big shoes to fill,” said Parker, referring to Carley’s strong reputation for •efficiency and effectiveness in the Village. “Nothing happens overnight and my confidence comes from knowing I am working with a wonderful group of women.” Carley worked for the Village for 25 years, 23 as Vil lage Clerk.
