After starting with a pair o f wins to open the campaign, a 13-4 loss to Ward M elville on April 3 follow ed by a decisive w in over Copiague, but then im m ediately followed by a tight 7-4 loss at Spring- field saw the Bulldogs w ith a 3-2 record. A third loss cotild cripple Lindenhurst's lofty expectations at such an early stage o f the season, but this was not to be the case as they knocked o ff Floyd, 9-5. Kyle O’Leary scored three goals and assisted on three others to lead the Bulldogs to an 18-2 victory on the road at Brentwood on'April 12 in the inau gural Bob H oppey High School Lacrosse Classic. The w in boosted Lindenhurst's record to a healthy 5-2 and 4-2 in D ivision I. “We are playing up to our standards to this p oint, but we have a tough schedule com ing up,” said se nior attack Danny Carson. Lindenhurst jum ped all over Brentwood in the first quarter. The Bulldogs posted 14 goals w hile holding the Indians scoreless through the first quarter. From there Lindenhurst slowed down the pace o f the gam e and o n ly score tw o m ore goals in the second quarter w h ile finally conceding one to Brentwood to hold a 16-1 lead at halftim e. The second half was m ore the same. Nursing a gigantic 15-goad lead the Bulldogs scored just two more goals in the half, but the defense was equally as good as they had been in the first half by only allowing one goaL The 16-goal victory was Linden hurst’s largest o f the season and best defensive ef fort thus far as well. O utside o f O'Leary's gam e-high six points, Noah D aniels scored five goals w hile Carson (1 G, 3 A) and D ilon Sm ith (2 G, 2 A ) each had; four points. Kyle Dolan (1 G, 2A) and Stephen Cicchetti (hat trick) each had three points. N ick Cornelia scored a goal and an assist. C olin Sherlock, Tony Kam in- skey, and Tom-M cCarthy each had a point in the (C o n tinued o n Page 3 ) by O livia M athori Student Correspondent On Sat., April 1 4 ,2 0 1 8 , the Village o f B abylon h o st ed a parade for all o f the little league team s w ithin the com m unity. “It’s m y favorite day o f the year,” said James Con nell, president o f the Babylon Little League. This event brought out everyone from relatives, the fire departm ent, police, store owners, veterans, S.C. Leg. Kevin McCaffrey, Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino and Village trustees. A long w ith the special guests, 26 team s m arched in the parade w ith their coaches, including both girls and boys varsity base ball and softball team s from Babylon H igh School. “This is the opening day parade for the entire com m u n ity to com e out...it celebrates the kick-off o f spring,” said McCaffrey. “Just seeing the excitem ent o f young b oys and girls awaiting their first gam e w ould have to be m y favorite part o f seeing everyone together,” said Mayor Scor dino. As dozens o f eager players were w aiting to march, it was tim e to begin. Softball players Paige Seegers, Katherine Taylor, Brianna Redm ond and O livia Cavallo were waiting for their turn to march in their final parade. “Sad that it’s finally over” said the girls w ho have been playing for about eight years w hen asked how they were feeling that m orning. Their coaches Mark Seegers and Jorge M ijares were m arching right alongside them . Throughout the 30-m inute march around the Bab ylon Village, unique chants from each team could be heard. The Cubs replied enthusiastically, “Yeah!” w hen asked if they were having fun m arching. Bystanders watching the parade could be found cheering along w ith all the players. After m arching, everyone headed to the Locust Avenue Field where James C onnell, Mayor Scordino and other public figures m ade speeches thanking the com m u n ity for their support. Little league player Brody Costigan, shown in pho to above right, was m arching in the parade for the second year. “I’m here for the hot dogs,” h e said, beam ing. A ll players, their fam ilies and supporters were served hot dogs before the first gam es o f the season began. Babylon girls lax blitzes Center Moriches, 16-4, for third win o f 2018 by Liam Henry There’s an old adage that good teams never get too high or too low. This can certainly be the case for Babylon girls lacrosse. The Panthers started off their season with a decisive 17-4 victory over Lindenhurst, but then followed it up with back-to-back losses by East Islip and Eastport-South Manor. A win over Hampton Bays broke the mini streak, but the question was what direction would the game against Center Moriches take Babylon?
