The contest was held as part of “National Youth Traffic Safety Month,” which was established in Suffolk County last year by Legislator Stern’s legislation. The students and their faculty advisor Sherry Deacon, prepared a video presentation about the dangers of dis tracted driving, includ ing cell phone use and texting. The students also perform ed before the Legislature. The school received a $10,000 grant by Allstate for educa tional programs. “I am so proud to recognize these talented and involved young men and women and to share their im p o rtant message about distracted driving. The New York State C o n s p i c u o u s Service Cross, along with its a c c o m p a n y ing citation, is the highest m ilitary honor the State of New York be stows on a veteran. MGriscuolo was also presented with the New York State Conspicuous Service Star. “All New Yorkers appreciate the sacrifice Mr. Criscuolo made for his country,” Senator Johnson stat ed. “It is my honor and privilege to present him with New York’s highest m ilitary honor.” The presentation cerem o n y tookplaceonN o v e m b e r 10, 2010 at the Senator’s Babylon Office. Criscuolo was a m em b er of the 397th Infantry R e g im e n t, 100th In fantry Di vision of the U n it ed States Army. His service began in March, 1944 and he was honor;- ably discharged in May of 1946. In addition to the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and the New York State Conspicu ous Star M edals, Criscuolo is also the recipient of the Com b at Infan try Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
