The sewer infrastructure being built by the Town will make it possible to im plement the Wyandanch Rising Ham let Plan - the community’s vision for the future. The sewer plan the Town is im plementing was developed with the $450,000 in federal funding Congress man Steve Israel secured for a compre hensive study and project design. U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, along with Congressman Israel, was instrumen tal in securing the federal support for the financing the Town will receive th rough the New York State Environme ntal Facilities Corporation (NYS EFC), headed by CEO Matt Driscoll. Assem blyman Bob Sweeney, as Chair of the Environmental Conservation Com mittee, worked closely with the EFC to insure that Wyandanch would be fun ded. Assemblyman Sweeney has also secured an additional $300,000 grant for the project. Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and the Suffolk County Legisla ture under the leadership of Legislator DuWayne Gregory, Presiding Officer Bill Lindsay and Minority Leader Dan LoSquadro joined together to eliminate sewer connection fees that could total up to $11 million. The NYS Empire State Development Corporation granted the Town $2 mil lion for the project; the NYS DOT awar ded $486,000 and the US EPA awarded $410,000 for the project. “This is an historic achievement for Wyandanch that will pave the way for the development of a real downtown, new jobs, affordable housing and a better environment,” said Supervisor Bellone. “This achievement would not have been possible without the incre dible work of Senator Schumer, Con gressman Israel, Assemblyman Swe eney and our other partners.” “Even the most innovative projec ts need to start with the basics,” said Congressman Israel. “ These sewers will provide the foundation for a vi sionary future here in Wyandanch and future economic development. Today’s announcement has been years in the making, but tangible benefits for this community are around the corner. I am proud to have worked with all levels of government to make this possible.” Shown top photo ground breaking o f sewer project shown left and above Steve Bellone and $300,000 grant for the project.
