GRAND LARCENY Babylon Village: A 2002 Chevy Astrovan parked on North Carll Avenue was stolen sometime between 10 a.m., O c t 9 and 9:30 a.m., Oct. 10. Copiague: An undisclosed amount of jewelry, an I-Pod and about $6,200 in cash were taken O c t 5 from a 43rd Street home. Police were called a 9 a.m. West Babylon: On Oct. 6, sometime before 6:40 a.m., someone stole a 1999 gray Saturn parked on Wellwood Avenue. North Babylon: Sometime between noon and 2 p.m. on Oct. 6, someone stole a wallet at a Deer Park Avenue facil ity. The wallet contained credit cards that were used soon after the theft East Farmingdale: Police reported that a silver Honda Civic was stolen sometime during the overnight hours between O c t 6 and 7. Wyandanch: A red 2009 red Camry parked on Jamaica Avenue was stolen O c t 10 shortly before 4 a.m. •Someone stole the catalytic converter from a Lexus that was parked at the Wyandanch railroad station. Police said the incident took place O c t 7, sometime between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Man in wheelchair struck and killed; police seeking witnesses Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a man in a motorized wheelchair in West Islip this morning. Nancy T. Mecca was driving a Ford Mustang east on Montauk Highway, near Milligan Lane, when her vehicle struck Gary Johnson, who was crossing the road in a motorized wheelchair, at 6:31 a.m. Johnson, 55, o f Dix Hills, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Is- lip at 8:06 a.m. Mecca, 39, o f West Islip, was treated at the same hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. West Babylon man seriously injured in single motorcycle crash A West Babylon man was critically injured in a m o tor vehicle crash Mon., Oct. 11. Suffolk County Po lice, who are investigating the incident, said the in cident occurred at Route 109 near Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, shortly after 7:30 p.m. At that time, police said Joseph Zheng, 19, was op erating his 1999 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Route 109 when he appeared to lose control o f the ve hicle and crashed as he was approaching the Sunrise Highway overpass. Zheng, o f 1452 9th St., was trans ported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and admitted in critical condition. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have infor mation about this incident to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. BURGLARY North Lindenhurst: Gaining entry through a side glass door, someone broke into a Wellwood Avenue home,, sometime between the night of O ct'6 and the morning of O c t 7, and stole various items. ^ Wyandanch: Upon returning home at 4 p.m. on O c t 1, the occupants o f a Jamaica Avenue home discovered that someone had broken in and had taken a variety of articles. Deer Park: Sometime between 11 a.m., Oct. 7 and 11 a m , O c t 8, someone entered a Nicolls Road home and stole a number o f undisclosed items. East Farmingdale: At 1 a.m. on O c t 12, the occupants of a Wellwood Avenue home discovered that someone had broken in and had taken various valuables. CRIMINAL M SCfflEF Babylon Village: On OctJS-sometime before 7:30 a m , someone vandalized a’car on Lee Ave.. Police stated the incident appears to be part o f an ongoing problem West Babylon: Someone vandalized a fence outside a 4th S t house O c t 10 sometime prior to 9 p.m. North Lindenhurst: Police received a call at 10:55 p m , O c t 11 reporting a car on Merritt St had been vandal ized. Deer Park: Someone made graffiti on a Long Island Ave. building sometime before 11:50 a.m. on O c t 9. •In what may have been an attempt to gain entry into a Long Island Ave business O c t 4 someone damaged the front door before fleeing. Police were called to the scene at 9 am . ARRESTS DWI. The following persons have been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated or impaired: Rod ney Jones, 141 Garfield St, Amityville; Wilfred Brown, 14 Cypress Ave., Wyandanch; Laron Jones, 285 Parkway (Continued on page 5) W inning spirit shines through during Homecoming W ith the sun shining brightly, Babylon High School celebrat ed this year’s Hom ecom ing fes tivities the second weekend of, October. The program , which kicked off on Friday night with a pep rally, was well attended by current and form er stu dents, parents, and com m u n ity m em bers. M embers of the high school’s varsity teams as well as the m embers of the H o m ecom ing C o u rt were announced dur ing the pep rally. Panther Pride was at an all- tim e high, as the high school m arching band, varsity and j u nior varsity cheerleaders, m em bers of the youth cheerleading and football team s, H o m ecom ing C o u rt candidates, and stu dents who helped create floats representing each grade proud ly m arched through Babylon Village on M o n tauk Highway. The big game against the Wy andanch W arriors kicked off at 2 p.m, on Coach Walt W illiams Field. Im m ediately following the coin toss, m em b ers of the high school’s Vocal Express sang the N ational Anthem . From the start, the Panthers were strong on offensive, scor ing 21_points in the first quar ter. Throughout the rem a inder of the game, attendees contin ued to cheer for the Panthers, enjoyed tasty treats from the snack stands, participated in a variety of kid-friendly ac tivities, and were ul tim ately excited to see the team capture the win against the W ar riors, im p roving their overall record 3-2. Following the game, the student b o d y gath ered for the traditional H om ecom ing Dance at the High School, during which Stephen Loudon a n d Cassandra Halko were crowned Hom ecom ing King and Queen.H o m ecom - ing Game against the W yandanch W arriors. Babylon High School band members kicked off this year’s Homecoming Parade down Montauk Highway. Members o f the Babylon School District community gathered to cheer the Babylon High School Panthers to a win during this year’s Homecoming Game. Babylon High School’s varsity football players dominated the field during this years Homecoming Game.
