(SBPLI) is highlighting the im p o rtance of m iddle school and high school robotics pro grams with its support of the Sixth Annual Deer Park Invitational. The p o stseason robotics com pe tition will b e held in the gym n asium at Deer Park High School on Sat., Oct. 16 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. School robotics program s im m erse youngsters in the science of physics and the field of engi neering. They provide an enjoyable, engaging learning environm ent and they enhance prob lem solving skills, cooperation and teamwork. The Invitational is designed to showcase the benefits o f robotics p rogram s on students, schools and their com m u nities. Participating team s will use the robots they built for the 2010 LI FIRST Regional com p eti tion, which was held at Hofstra University in March. At the event, students will p rogram their robots, some weighing as m u ch as 135 pounds, to com pete on a 27-by-54-foot playing field, at tem p ting to earn points by collecting soccer balls in goals. A d d itional bonus points are earned for each robot suspended in air a n d not touching the field at the end of the match.
