It provided a w o n d e rful opportunity to “show off” the beautiful Village. C redit goes to all w h o w o rked so hard to m a k e these events so successful— from the officials, Village a n d School employees, security, v o lunteers a n d m e rchants. All have a chance for a little breather before picking u p the w o rk again as we h e a d to the holi days. The Beacon newspaper invites readers to present their views, ideas and issues. R e a d e r s ’ V o i c e s : Letters and Com m entary This country needs another tax. revolt D e ar E d itor: I can understand the frustration expressed by the “Tea Party Movement.” People are beginning to feel like how the Colonialists must have felt during the reign o f the high taxing Redcoats. The only difference being today we have more representation in govern ment with the same over-taxation. As a worker you are lucky to have 50 percent of what you earn read ily available to spend on your family o r other needs. This is largely because the dollars we earn (after the deductions from state and federal taxes) are taxed again when we buy something (sales tax), when we earn income from investments (capital gains tax), are taxed again (when we pay local school and property taxes), this not including special taxes on the cable bill, telephone bills, water bills etc. The maze o f taxes a dollar can be subjected to has transformed itself to a collecting duct for the various government treasuries, local, state, and federal; supporting infrastructure’ we are told, but in essence paving the way for more gov ernance and control o f the taxpayer’s dollars. My contention is that we are now living in a “Tax State.” W hat I mean by this is that by giving so much control o f o u r money over to government, we are los ing control over our lives, and have less real income to spend o u r families. I do n o t think this was the original intention o f our Founding Fathers. On Long Island where the local property and school taxes are especially high, double and triple taxation is even more difficult to swallow. I would suggest a moratorium on spending, freeze all pork projects, and use o u r taxes to pay down m ore o f our debt, u n til we reach a balanced budget. Then let us get seri ous about how we can eliminate the vagaries o f heavy taxation with representation. How much more money do they want o r need. After buying Digital TV sets and still losing channels, we where told that as long as we have Cablevision, we will get to watch the basic p ro grams on these TV sets without a box. W hen I came home tonight and p u t my set on, I get a blue dialogue screen now informing me that I must purchase or rent a Cableyision box with a card in order to view the stations again. This is unfair and out o f control. How much more money do they need me to pay over and above the $165 per m onth they already get from us? Enough already.
