Nunez graduated from basic com bat training Army National Guard Pfc, Nunez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Rosa Keigans of W. Second ! St., Deer Park, and a 2008 | graduate of Deer Park I High School. Deer Park Girl Scout Cadet Troop 1609 was acknowledged by Deer Park Fire Department officials and Town of Babylon officials at the annual Deer Park community 9/11 service in Deer Park for there hard work this past summer in beautfying and planting new flowers all around the monument and Garden. Treasurer Carpenter attends the Chamber o f Commerce “A Taste o fW estlslip” West Islip Chamber of Commerce and Our Lady of Con solation recently sponsored A Taste o f West Islip which fea tured local restaurants, businesses and organizations. This event provided an opportunity for local residents to come by and sample the incredible culinary offerings and meet many of the local restaurant owners. “The Chamber and Our Lady of Consolation deserve to be commended for bringing this first event to West Islip,” said Treasurer Carpenter. “It is great to be supportive of the businesses within the community, especially when they are always supporting West Islip. Our Lady o f Consolation resident celebrates 100th Birthday At West Islip’s Our Lady of Consolation, resident Jo hanna Kowalski Austin, celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug.18,2010. Austin was born Aug. 18,1910 in Me- chanicsville, New York and later married Sidney Wil liam Austin. They settled in Hicksville to raise their four children, Sidney, Dorothy, James and Leonora. Austin also worked for Grumman Industries during WWII. Today she has eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with eight great-great grandchil dren. A birthday celebration was held at Our Lady of Consolation with her family and friends. To pass her time, Austin keeps very active crocheting, playing bingo, attending Mass and joining in many ac tivities.
