4 • BEACON NEWSPAPER, September 9,2010 DRAWING CONCLUSIONS^— try KgriaJBastwoo 4 We paid a high price for the lessons of 9/11 Even nine years later, the horror, the pain, the an ger, the fear and the questions persist. We are living in a post 9/11 world in which the innocence and trust o f the past were shattered by unspeakable acts that defy human understanding. Yet, live, we must. ; ; A lot has been said and offered byway o f attempt- i ing to understand the events o f September 11,2001, , yet even almost a decade later it all seems so sense less. O u r generation can recall with vivid precision, the names o f those we lost; their youth, their ener gy; their talent and faith and hopes and dreams. We can recall simple lines in their faces o r the inflection in their voices. We would still recognize their foot steps o r their laughter. That is why the pain remains, and it is why we must honor their memories by holding on to a greater sense o f suspicion, steady dose o f apprehen sion, and a healthy suspicion toward political and international relations. We can n o longer afford the luxury o f being carefree and naïve. O u r loved ones paid with their lives to teach us. that important les son. Each of us, and each of o u r political leaders, should heed that lesson well. It came at a terrible price..v; - - - S > > S > -■■■> .. Memorial and I was amazed at the amount o f people who attended At this event, Beck honored our Special Operations War riors and all of our armed services. Through his website, he raised more than $5 million for their foundation. My estimate is 300,000 to 500,000 people were there. Everyone there was peaceful, desiring honor be restored to ourselves and to our country, and by doing so, honoring our Founders. He also honored Martin Luther King, and rightly so, because Aug. 28, 1963 was his “I Have a Dream” speech, a speech that everyone should remem ber, I was behind Glenn Beck at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and tried to BEACON NEWSPAPERS Babylon Post O ffice, Babylon, N Y 11702 (USPS0396-8000) Copyright 1999 CJ PUBLISHERS, INC. “THE PAPER THAT WORKS” A combination of newspapers and editions covering Babylon, Lindenhurst, Copiague, Massapequa, Amityville, North Babylon, West Babylon, Wyandanch, Deer Park, Oix Hills, Wheatley Heights, West Islip, Brentwood, Brightwaters, Bay Shore, •slip. There were people from all parts o f America who wanted to show our government and our representatives that we stand for honor and hope and to send the message that they must do the same. Glenn Beck has opened the eyes o f so many Amer icans to the real history o f our Country and how far weve strayed from the miracle that is America. This rally should be a wake up call to everyone, or we will lose this great country. Our Founders pledged their lives, their fortunes, arid their sacred honor when the American Revolu tion began. As Americans, we need to do the same today because our country is in deep trouble. We trusted our representatives to be honorable people, and as it turns out, they are not. Glenn Beck has given us truth, and introduced us to David Barton, 1 an historian of American history. If you don’t know who David Barton is, please look him up at Amazon, com. He is one of the most in formed historians I have ever come across; look up his books; read the truth; get to know our Founding Founders; restore our Constitution and our amazing America. If you don’t know Glenn Beck, it is time that you do get to know him. If you know who he is but have never gotten to really know him and are keeping yourself in the dark, you won’t know the truth of what is hap pening in this country. Lei Lani Yeswoit, Amityville
