ROBBERY W est Babylon: Two m en stole anoth er man’s cell phone Aug. 12 just after m id night. The incident occurred outside the Sal vation Army Center on Little East N eck Road. BURGLARY W heatley Heights: Som etim e betw een 10:30 p.m ., August 12 and the early m orning o f Au gust 13, w h ile the residents were asleep, som e one broke into a Stonington Circle hom e and stole a lap top com puter and a television. •O n Aug. 17, som etim e betw een 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m ., som eone entered a Burrs Lane hom e and stole assorted item s. W est Babylon: Police reported that on Aug. 13, som etim e prior to 9 p.m ., som eone stole various ar ticles from a C enterwood Street hom e. GRAND LARCENY Deer Park: An undisclosed am ount o f equip m ent was taken from a trailer at a Com m ack Road job site Aug. 16. Police were called at 6:30 p.m. •A pocketbook was taken from a car on 23rd Street som etim e betw een the night o f August 16 and the m orning o f Aug. 17. Babylon Village: A laptop com puter and other item s were taken Aug. 11 from a car parked on M ayhew Avenue. W est Islip: A refrigerator was taken from outside a U n ion Boulevard store Aug. 11. North Lindenhurst: The tires and rim s were taken Aug. 13 from a car parked on 49th Street. | Police were called at 7 a.m. North Babylon: Som eone stole an undis closed am ount o f landscaping equipm ent from a truck on Spangle Drive Aug. 17. Police said the theft took place betw een 10 and 10:15 a.m. •An unknown person stole and used a bank card. Aug. 16 belonging to a D u little Street resident. Babylon: A car parked on Deer Park Avenue was stolen Aug. 10, som etim e before noon. M elville: Som eone stole several item s from a car at the H ilton Inn on Rte. 110 Aug. 16. Police were called at 9 a.m. CRIM INAL M ISCHIEF W yandanch: Police responded to a dom estic vio lence scene at a Little East N eck Road location when a son p u lled a k n ife on h is father. The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m ., Aug. 16. N o injuries were reported. W est Islip: A construction trailer at a M ontauk Highway job site was vandalized during the over night hours between Aug. 12 and 13. Sex Abuse: Jeremiah Herm an, 96 N orth Erie Ave., Lindenhurst (two counts). Burglary: Steven Krasowsky, 11 Rosella Court, W est Babylon. The charges against those arrested are allegations and the cases are still pending in the courts. Individu als charged and whose names appear in this column may submit documentation to us at a later date that the charges have been dismissed or that they have been found innocent and we will include that information in this space in a timely manner. byLenaPennino A graduate of the Class ’65 AT North Babylon High School, Barbara Leun is the newly elected school board president She is replacing former board president Janet Meyerson. Leun is devoted the North Babylon School District she said, and is looking forward to the challenges o f her new post “I have lived in North Babylon for 54 years; I moved out here from Brooklyn in the fourth grade,” said Leun. She raised her two children here, William and Deborah, both graduates o f the North Babylon school system. Leun also taught locally, serving as an English teacher in Lindenhurst High School for 32 years. “After I retired, I felt like I wanted to give back to the com munity’ she said In 2004, she joined d ie school board As board president she will facilitate board meetings, make sure community members’ opinions are welcome, peruse the meeting agendas with the superintendent and sign legal paperwork as the representative o f the board, she explained. At the same time, she said that “all board mem ber are equal.. .we all get one vote.” This is the first time she has served as president o f the board In other board news: •After previously cutting all five elementary school librar ian positions, the district w ill rehire 2.5 librarians back after finding funds in the budget The two full-time teachers and one part-time teacher will float between all the elementary schools. The superintendent w ill fully unveil this plan at an upcoming school board meeting. •The board will consider a new format for the districts external suspension program; •The board has begun their search for superintendent following the announcement by Superintendent Dr. Aloise that he will retire December 2010. The board will inter view an internal candidate w ho has applied for the position - who currently works for the district If they do not find a candidate internally, the board plans to widen their search. “We are taking it one step at a time,” said president Barbara Leun. The greater community will be involved in the ap pointment process, she said, including representatives from local civic groups, a parent and teaching staff Lindenhurst honors its Championship Bulldogs The Incorporated Village o f Lindenhurst recently honored Lindenhurst Bulldogs Baseball for w inning the New York State Class AA Cham pionship game at Binghamton University.
