Forest Avenue's Family Picnic Forest Avenue School in the West Babylon School District recently held its annual family picnic. Hamburgers and hot dogs were grilled and everyone danced and enjoyed the unique entertainment, the DJ and the Spoonman, who played music just by using two spoons. Despite tlie tainy weather the family picnic was a success. Shown in the photo, above, are Lauren O’Brien, Ei in Ehnchs, Natalie Nunez, and Shawn Murray. 4C • BEACON SHOPPER, August 2 6 ,2010 senior falcons soar Lindenhurst Middle School students selected for Breakfast for Champions Congratulations go to the Lindenhurst Middle Breakfast for Champions. “These students are School students who were selected for the 2010 wonderful people,” proudly stated Principal Frank Naccarato. Each month, selected stu dents are honored for going “above and beyond” with a breakfast at the Linden- crest Diner. The program was established 11 years ago by teacher and coordinator Debbie Gloor. Students are nominated by their teachers. The May champions are Emily Burkard, Vanessa Car- dino, Alexis Didonato, Albi na Dzeladini, Gabrielle Gam- buzza, Kiersten Gustavson, Kathleen Mackey, Ewelyn Majkrzak, Larissa Manning, Colleen Marquardt and Rebekah Wall- ner This month’s breakfast was sponsored by the Lindenhurst Association of School Administra tors (LASA). r Shown in the p h o to at left a re M ay 2 0 1 0 B reakfast fo r C h a m p ions honorees with Lindenhurst M iddle School Principal Frank N accarato, left, an d West Gates Avenue Elem entary School Principal Lisa Omeis, right. 1 Students support St. Jude with a Math-a-Thon The student body at Kirdahy Elementary School at Captree in West Islip has supported the S t Jude Chil drens Research Hospital by participating in its Math- a-Thon program, which pro vides a way for students to raise money in the fight against childhood cancer and other money to earn gifts from the project such as T-shirts, games, and passes to Six Flags amuse ment parks. Student Dana- lynn, age eight says, “St. Jude takes care of kids with cancer, so it’s really important that we help.” Hospital spokesperson Danica McKellar, who is also the author of the books Math Doesn’t Suck and Kiss My Math, reminds everyone that the hos pital doesn’t turn away children with cancer and no insurance, thereby making donations cru cial. She adds that the math fun book used in the Math-a-Thon also helps students prepare for state tests. life-threatening diseases. D e e r Park High School’s The Deer Park High School Senior Awards cer emony recognized members of the Class of 2010 for their academic and athletic accomplishments, as well as their positive contributions to the dis trict and community. A variety of departmental, schoolwide, memorial and administrator awards honored students for their work, both inside and out of the classroom. Parents, active community members, district teachers, administrators, and the Deer Park Board of Education came together for this memorable night to congratulate students with plaques, certificates and scholarships for their outstanding contributions. Special guest Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy attended the event to present the Public Ser vice Award, while Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone sponsored the Community Service Award and Congressman Steve Israel sponsored the Citizenship Award.
