Students students applied their education on the environment to worked together to water their seedlings and planned to create a greener and cleaner school. Joining their green efforts JQA students also created a mural comprising of class room scrap paper and old materials. Their artistic expression demonstrated how “trash” can be reused and transformed into something beautiful. Through the project students learned how to construct, by using simple materials, butterfly, bird and flower artwork. In addition, students expanded upon this principle by creating useful pieces of artwork, including flowerpots, bird feed ers and toys to share with friends and family members. Becoming hands-on participants students decided to plant their own “Truffola trees,” as described in the Seuss tale, and selected a patch of land in the school’s courtyard, M a y C row n ing D a y at OLOL Students are shown who collaborated on a mural depicting scenes from nature using discarded materi als and designed recycling projects reusing household supplies. Babylon students make cards for nursing home Thurs., May 20 was May Crowning Day at Our Lady of Lourdes School, West Islip. The day start ed with a Mass to honor the Blessed Mother. Af ter Mass, the Blessed Mother statue was honored with a crown made from flowers brought from each and every school child. The new communicants from the second grade conducted the ceremony. .a.<; l :/s ,:a In hopes of brightening their day, Babylon Elementary kindergartners in Barbara Krucher’s class and third-gra ders from Susan Scalfani’s class at Memorial Grade Scho ol (who have been paired as classroom buddies this year) recently worked tpgether to create Mother’s Day cards for a nearby nursing home. After reading the book Is Your Mama a Llama? and discussing the importance of the project, the students worked with their buddies to craft more than 120 cards for the nursing home. The finished cards were delivered to the nursing home’s female resi dents in time for the holiday.
