BEACON NEWSPAPER, M arch 4 ,2010 BACCA scholarship applications available through April 16th The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA) has announced that it will have its 2 010 Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts Scholarship. The BACCA Trustee M e m o rial Scholarship was founded in 1992 to honor the memory of the Art Councils past trustees. Two awards are given annually to high school seniors, residing within the Township o f Babylon, who plan to pursue higher ed u c a tion in the performing, literacy or visual arts. The application deadline is Fri., April 16. Applications are available through your high school guidance office. If you would like more information, contact BACCA at 6 3 1-587-3969. Over 200 stockings were sent to Iraq in time fo r Christmas. Running the operation was Roberta Palumbo with help from two elementary schools, Hemlock Park and Pine Park Elementary o f Brentwood. Deer Park student organizes community shoe drive Deer Park Robert Frost Middle School student Amanda Gouskos organized a unique apparel drive to benefit the families of the Deer Park community. John F. Kennedy Interm e d iate Sch o o l students, faculty and staff celebrated the season o f giving with their annual new shoe collection . W ith the help o f Social W orker Kathleen MiUis, a list was created o f the school’s families that are in need o f a variety o f footwear including sn e a k e r s , slippers and b o o ts. Amanda decorated a shoe tree in the school’s lobby, adorned with ornaments that were descriptive o f specific shoe requests listing the person’s sex, shoe size and type of shoe requested. Beneficiaries o f the program received their shoes on Christmas morning, gift-wrapped and underneath their trees. Robert Frost Middle School student Amanda Gouskos crafted various ornaments and set up a shoe tree in John F. Kennedy Intermediate Schools lobby to support the less fortunate within the Deer Park community. A chance to ride with Jolly OF St. Nick Meghan Reilly, Julia Horvath and Michael Horvath were chosen this year to ride with Santa in his sleigh down Deer Park Avenue during Babylon Village's Old-Fashioned Nite o f Shopping.
