Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is re minding all Town o f Babylon residents that the dead line to apply for New York States School Tax Relief (STAR) program and other property tax exemptions is March 1. “New York State’s STAR program provides hom eowners with hundreds of dollars in school tax sav ings,” said Senator Fuschillo. “All homeowners are eli gible to receive savings through the STAR program, and I urge anyone who has not already signed up for this program to take advantage of these valuable school property tax savings.” The STAR program works in two parts: - Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium or coop erative apartment, regardless o f income level or age. - Enhanced STAR is available to senior citizen prop erty owners whose federal adjusted gross income is under $74,700 and who will be 65 or older by De cember 31. If the property is owned by a husband and wife, or by siblings, only one of them must be at least 65 years old to qualify for this exemption. Residents who already receive the Basic STAR ex emption or who participate in the Enhanced STAR Income Verification Program do not need to re-file. Long Island Country Music Association Dance to be held February 27 The Long»Island Country Music Association will hold a dance, Sat, Feb 27,8 p.m to midnight. Legislator Steve Stern urges lim ited incom e seniors to file fo r Property Tax Exem ptions Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stem (D-Huntington) 16th LD is urging those 65 and older with a limited income in the Town of Babylon to file for New York State’s property tax exemption. The property must be the primary and legal residence. The assessor’s office in your town can provide you with assistance calculating income to determine eligibility. “I strongly encourage all those who are eligible for Limited Income Seniors exemptions to take advantage of this program,” Legislator Stern said. For additional information or to obtain an application, please contact the Assessor’s Office in Babylon at 957- 3014. Applications must be filed or postmarked on or before March 1. Residents who moved to a new house and had the STAR exemption at their previous address need to file a new application. The STAR exemption is not auto matically transferred to a new address. In addition, the Town of Babylon also offers other property tax exemptions, including: ^Senior citizens exemption * Veterans exemption * Cold War veterans exemption * First-time homebuyer exemption * Volunteer firefighter or ambulance service worker exemption * Person with disabilities and limited income exemp tion * Capital improvement exemption Residents who need additional information or ap plications for the B.asic or Enhanced STAR program can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or visit his website, fuschillo.nysenate.gov. The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society Evening Tower Tour to he held February 28 The Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society will hold an evening tower tour, Sun., Feb., 28, 5:15 p.m. The cost is $15 per person and reservations are required.
