February 4,2010, BEACON SHOPPER • 3C Babylon kindergarten registration begins for 2 0 1 0 -2011 school year The Babylon School District offers a full-day kindergarten program for students residing within district lines. In order to enroll in the program for this September (2010), children must be five years old on or before Dec. 1,2010 and be registered during the open registration period. This year, residents can register their children on: Fri., March 12 and Mon., March 15, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Thurs., March 18, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Babylon Elementary School, 171 Ralph Ave., Babylon. Two proofs of residency m u st be presented at registration. These include two of the following: a drivers license with photo, an updated town/village tax bill, updated W-2 form, current lease, mortgage, etc. No utility bills will be accepted as proof of residency. If the license does not have a current address, an additional proof o f residency such as a mortgage statement or copy of your deed, will need to be presented. If you lease or rent and do not have an updated lease, an owner’s affidavit will need to be signed and notarized, along with a copy o f the owner’s updated tax/village utility bill. Parents must supply the district with the child’s most recent immunization record. Children m ust have had two MMRs and two Varivax (Chicken Pox) yaccinations in order to sign up for the kindergarten screening. Physicals will be mandatory p rior to the start o f kindergarten. Registration packets will be available for pick-up in the elementary school office, 171 Ralph .Ave., one week prior to the first registration date. Babylon Village Arts Council Winter Art Show Feb. 27 The Babylon Village Arts Council In partnership with Astoria Federal Savings B ank w ill be sp o n s o r in g its first W inter A rt Show and Sale on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Masonic Lodge located at 250 West Main. St., Babylon Village from noon to 4 p.m. Works from the late sculptor Jacob Lipkin, sculptor, will be on exhibition. Between 1940-1979 Lipkin participated in over seventy group exhibitions at venues such as the W hitney Museum of A m erican A rt and exhibited his work in twenty one-man shows. His work can be viewed at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, the Smithsonian in Washington, the Tel Aviv Museum to n a m e a few, as well as in private collections. Anthony Servedio is a self-taught artist whose need for self-expression first articulated itself in oil paintings during he m id-nineties. His large- scale oil paintings reflect his love of the sea and his vibrant life on the seashore. The latest manifestation of Tony’s innate talent and irrefutable need for artistic expression comes in the form of driftwood. Tony has called the East End his full-time home for four years now, and his love o f the East End’s vast rugged shoreline has blossomed into a veritable obsession with driftwood. He takes great care of his amazing driftwood finds and uses his skill and talent to fashion them into m o d ern sculpture. W h ile listening to the m u sic of Greg Albino, you can view the works of the surrealist oils o f Paola B. Bianchi, pastel landscapes o f D o n B artsch, w a tercolors by Deb D iD o m e n c io, photography by Steve Martino, paintings by Ned Butterfield and oils by Shareed Marrone. Family Service League 10 week divorce/separation support group to begin February 20 The Family Service League will hold a 10-week divorce/separation support group to help with the adjustment. Meet other men and women who are recently divorced or separated and share with others in similar circumstances. The group will begin Sat., Feb. 20 and run through Sat., May 1 at the levino South Shore Family Center, 1444 Fifth Ave., Bay Shore. Preregistration is required. West Babylon Post Office recently earned a bronze five-star rating as part of the Postal Service’s 5 Star Custom er Service Program. Ratings are based on surveys by the Gallup Organization. To earn a bronze award a post office has to receive the 5 Star Award for four postal quarters in a row. “Our goal is to provide our customers with excellent service,” said Babylon Postmaster John Lunghi. “Now we’ve got the bronze 5 Star Award to back it up.” The Gallup Organization surveyed Postal Service customers, asking them to rate local Post Offices on efficiency, accuracy o f delivery, clerk information consistency o f delivery and wait-time- in-line. West Babylon Post Office receives “Excellent” ratings, earning the bronze 5 Star Customer Service Award. Customers entering the West Babylon Post Office will know it too. Each office earning 5 Star status receives a sign for its door and all employees receive 5 Star lapel pins in recognition o f the rating. “We’re really honored to receive this rating,” said Lunghi. “It shows that o ur customers value the excellent service West Babylon postal employees provide.”
