The grasshopper is becoming a bur- den on many farms this dry season, but a curious fact of the work of. these insects was observed by the writer this week. Some burdockswere noted with the stalks stripped entirely of leaves, and only the clumps or burrs remain- ing. On investigation it was found that grasshoppers were responsible for the unusual a.pp'earance of a plant, for which . none of the ‘animal seems to have a taste ‘unless dnivenito it by hu_nger. ' The wheat crop about the‘ Seneca. has heen gathered in good condition, and the yield is better than in many seasons past. Threshing has com- menced, and reports of\froml—t—hi1:‘ty to forty bushels per acre are being re- ceived. The price is ruling above the dollar-mark, below which -it should never fall, for while ‘bread is the statf of life, the average consuniption of wheat for a year is but six bushels for each me1nber..of the family.
