Never in the history of the con- gressional and vacillating senatorial district has pussyfooting been develop- ed to such a fineness. It must be. No other source is safe, for every Repub- lican in Saratoga county is anxious to know bow every Republican in Wash- ington county is going to line up on the Whitney-Kavanaugh | nomination imbroglio and in a few weeeks will not only be anxious to know, but will in- sist on knowing. Whitney and Kava- naugh are seeking the Republican nomination for senator in the district as most people have reason to under- stand. Until the reapportionment was declared unconstitutional Wash- ington county was not such a big fac- 'tor in the contest. It was a factor, true enough, but not as important as it is now under the old reapportion- ment. If the Washington county Re- publicans were informed of the event ual determination of the apportion: ment mixup they might permit them- selves to speak above a whisper, but not until then will they lay aside the prevailing caution. Of One Accord in Washington. Nothing like the Whitney-Kava- naugh affair exists within Washington county. There the Republicans live in accord, fully decided to return Con- gressman James S. Parker of Salem to the house of representatives and As- semblyman Charles O. Pratt to Al- bany. The congressman runs in a very healthy - Republican | district. The smallest margin the Democrats have been able to establish against Pratt has consisted of 1.200 votes more or less, and is a trifle more than the Democrats can overcome. But this re- apportionment business has not been settled yet. That a special session of the legislature is not out of the qi cs tion, but a probability of considerable certainty, is the opinion held by some of the most prominent politiclans of the county. The disparagement in the apportionment in 1907 was greater than the one which the court of ap: the law should revert away back to 1894, the assembly and senatorial dis- tricts would be so out of proportion an extra session could not be avoided. It was felt that a hotel along the lines planned would be sufficiently attractive to pull business to this loca tion and that it would be better off away from the general line of travel. The men who were at the confer- ence are interested in hotels in other cities that are located in that way and they have found it to have many advantages The general plan dis- cussed was to have a hotel with one hundred and fifty rooms with baths to rent for $1.50 and one hundred rooms with general bath conven- fences to rent at $1.00. Service would be on the European plan. It was also considered that plane wauld include a ball room on the top floor that «could be used for banquets and other entertainments and thus enable the city to have a place where it could 'have all the conveniences of dances, dinners, banquets, etc., in a hotel with none of the inconven- iences that exists at present.
