Mr. Moniban is not a Tammany man, but he calmly asks himself where the Democratic state candidates would be any year with: out the big New York city vote and he does not have to state the answer, Blandy for Hughes. Isaac N. Blandy, the wealthy paper manufdcturer and philanthropist of Greenwich, is no longer a Democrat. { Mr. Blandy, who was a Dechmtic presidential elector four years ago, is out and out in his declaration for Hughes and hopes to be able to or- ganize a non-partisan Hughes league in Greenwich, one of the principles of which shall be that none of the members accept - political appoint- ment from - either the expected Hughes or Whitman administratnons, Mr. Blandy stated that it took him thirty years to find out that it was a mistake for him to stay in the Demo- cratic party and asserts very en- phatically that the probability of his some day returning to the party he has left is too riliculous for even passing consideration, Mr. Blandy, like other men of his home town, has been reading letters from the sol- dier boys on the border which are not worded in terms very complimen- tary to the federal government and has drawn from these epistles the conclusion that the Wilson vote in the solid south will be a rreat shock to the president's supporters, SLACCRRLERSE From custodt Forgery Case is Not Pressed-| Claims he Committed no Wrongful Act. Frank L. Slack of Wulfert, Fla., for merly of Glens Falls and Rutland, Vt., who was detained by the police of Winchendon, Mass., on a Rutland warrant charging forgery issued by State's Attorney C. V. Poulin, was brought to the Vermont city Friday night and released on Saturday by Judge F. G. Swinnerton. State's At- torney Poulin requested his release as the case was not pressed. Slack claims the checks are good and are not forgeries. He placed his initials beneath the name of M. C. Dwight who is the owner of a large mercantile fruit business in Wulfert. As Slack's initials were beneath the signature, he claims there was no case of misrepresentation or forgery and that he was authorized to draw on Mr. Dwight's account. Mr. Slack states that he made out three checks on the | same day, one for the Bardwell, one Walker. Mr. Walker was the com- plainant in the case. Slack says the Bardwell check was paid whereas the other two were returned. Mr. Slack has made public the fol lowing letter which was sent to Mr. Dwight by J. E.
