£ p t A b | f, as tic Meeting Held Last Even- _. Ing in City Hall. Organization of a Young Men's Re publican club was perfected last even- Ing at an enthusiastic meeting in CIty op Company t with articles for their hall auditorium by the election of City Judge Beckwith as president; Romney C. Patterson, secretary, and A. C. Taylor, treasurer, Committees are to be named by Judge Beckwith to draft by-laws for the organization and to arrange for a ' clambake. There was a goodly attendance of the young Republicans of the city and all showed a decided interest in the plans. The privilege of the floor was accorded to those who sought infor- mation concerning the scope of activ- ities and all entered into a general discussion of the subjects brought up. Numerous suggestions were made for the consideration of the commit- tee which is to draft the by-laws and it is expected another meeting will be held the latter part of the month for the consideration of the report of this committee. . By his remarks Judge Beckwith in- dicated that the club is being organ- ized for political purposes. but with the idea of creating and maintaining interest in the Republican party among the younger voters and those wbhout to become voters. The question of affiliating with the Hughes Allance as a club was brought up and Judge Beckwith, who has received an invitation to become a member of the general committee of the alliance, was requested to com- municate with the secretary of the alliance to ascertain whether the club as a body can become associated. The following resolution, endorsing the candidacy of Hon. Charles Evans Hughes for the presidency, was adopted: \Whereas Hon. Charles Evans Hughes, a native of this city, has been nominated by the Republican party as its candidate for the office of president of the United States, be it \Resolved That this club, repre- senting the young Republican voters of the City of Glens Falls, mindful of the signal honor conferred upon a na- tive of our city, and recognizing the distinctive services rendered by Mr. Hughes to his state as its governor and to his nation as a member of the highest court, and sensible also of his splendid and unusual equipment for the performance of the duties of the exalted office for which he has been named, does hereby heartily endorse and approve of such nomination, and does pledge its most sincere support in aid of his election.\ At the conclusion of the business session all of the young men became acquainted with each other and the wbject of the club to create unity among the young Republicans was given a good start. The meating was adjourned subject to the call of the president. To start the ball rolling the man- agement of the Bailey Music rooms in South street contributed a victrola and a half dozen records, and Mr. Dailey gave a quantity of cigars, cigarettes and tobacco. The manage- ment of the Bailey Music rooms an- nounces that records purchased to be forwarded to the boys in Texas will be placed so as to be sent without be- ing damaged and forwarded free of charge by Mr, Dailey. That Mr. Dailey's scheme has met with the approval of the people of the city is indicated by the large number of packages which have already been deposited in the barrel and as the plan becomes more generally known the contributions will be greatly in- creased. B, Fowler store during the entire week, July 10 to 15, and everyone is urged to visit the disploy and support the great work. \Week for the Blind\ in June of last year at- tracted general interest and supplied very welcome checks to a number of slightless workers, not to mention the Mberal education the exhibit afforded local patrons; but this year the dem- onstration will be almost entirely by people of our own community, men who, before their misfortune, worked side by side with many of us, and the lesson of bravery and pluck that it will teach will be personal. The most con- spicuous features will be the broom- making and rug weaving by men from the local worshop, but the variety of altractive needle work cannot be over- looked. A number of ladies have volunteer ed to act as salesladies for certain days, and a chairman has been appoint- ed for each day, Certain entertain- ments have been planned for evenings of the week, in order to replenish the meagre treasury of the association, whose ambition is to give an increas- ing amount of assistance to men in the local workshop.
