Typical of the pioneering an'd foresight which has spark- ed the con.iniial expansion of Schine Enterprises through the years is the entrance of the Schine Hotsl division into the highway inn field. ENGINEERING & SUPPLY COMPANY 207 FLYNN AVENUE flg$|| BURLINGTON, VERMONT Pittsburgh Office 103 Bridge St. Tel. JOrdan 1-4060 That was J. Myer Schine's credo back in 1917, when a chance meeting with, a motion picture film salesman on a train changed his career. The salesman happened to remark that he thought Gloversville, a small town in upstate New York, needed a quality-type family theater. Mr. Schine was headed west on a business trip. He got off the train at Buffalo, and took an east-bound train for Glov- ersville. There, putting his life- long beliefs into practice, he founded what was to become one of the nations' great busi- ness enterprises. Though chance brought Mr. Sehine to Gloversville, it was no accident that he was suc- cessful. The'\'.property\ was a shabby, upstairs auditorium converted from a skating rink, with old worn-out-, wooden seats and antiquated! projec- tion equipment. Mr. Schine comp 1 e t e 1 y changed the appearance\ of the hall into an elegant atmos- phere and environment by re- decorating and renovating the interior. He installed the fin- est, most comfortable theater seats he co'uld find, installed new projection equipment, men for ushers, and then showed the best films obtain- able. • - -' • • • • The results ]|vere highly gratifying; and asMis^agss im- proved from •#e*K^fetfvhi{k J Mr. Schine interested his •brother Louis W.
