They were welcomed in 1926 as theater people; they are welcome in 1960 as hotel peo- ple. V.A.Warren had built the brick structure in 1918 on the east side of Main St. to give Massena the latest type of theater. The old Star Theater had been remodeled for stores ' in front and the rear part had been sold to L„ C. Sutton and Company for the Observer. Mr. Warren had operated the old Star Theater from 1913 when it was built, until it was remodeled to stores and a printing shop in 1918. He op- erated his new theater until he leased it to Schine Enterprises in 1926. Mr. Warren was in- terested in other real estate ventures. He died in 1947. We^wm Congratulations To The mm? The theater jwhich wasrpart of the Warren estate was pur- chased about three years ago by Schine Enterprises.\ The Warren estate, after several bequests were made, was left 4o-the-township-of-Massena-to build a library or some other suitable memorial to Mr. War- ren's p'arents. From time to time, the Schine Theater has been re- modeled and moderni zed. Schine Enterprises always pro- vided Massena with tl\e best in theater entertainment. In 1941, Schine Enterprises purchased* the first property for .hotel purposes. It was the Alfred W\ Dutton house and lot. Later the Henry P. Clark house on the corner of Main and Orvis was. secured by Schine Enterprises andllater the Matthews property !at the ©ms^hnrch corner was se^ cured. The duplex house and the square house on Ghurjch St. was added to the site this Spring. During the ground breaking ceremonies last July, Mayor Thomas S.Bushnell presented David Schine,' president, a copy of The-Massena Observer dated Aug. 3,1931, telling aliout the remodeling of the theater.
