EXPLORER POST TOUR Explorer Scout Post 50 of Guilder- land made a tour of the 139th Fighter Squadron installation at the Air Na- tional Guard in Schenectady last Saturday. Oapt. W. Miller described Hie plane, its controls, its jet engine and other points. Each boy had a chance to sit in the cockpit and work the con- trols. The parachute room was visited and a chute was unpacked and de- scribed, showing all the fine details and emergency features. A demon- stration of the jet Lank trainer fol- lowed. SKATING ON MILL POND Skating became the winter sport of Guilderland over the week end. The Mill Pond blossomed out in skating costumes of many colors. Howard Jacobson kindly cleared a large portion of the pond with his tractor, and others with shovels help- ed to move the snow. A group of teen-age boys, throwing snow, soon had the ice cluttered again, however. It is too bad that something can be spoiled by thought- lessness. Perhaps a word- to the wise will help. To parents of teen-age boys who you know are going skat- ing: Please advise your boys to co- operate by keeping the ice clean and refrain from snow-balling on the pond. Another note of caution. Cars are being ticketed for parking on the highway, so if you are going skating park on the side streets or at the town hall and avoid this expensive inconvenience. Often a child or even adult cannot pull his or herself free if contacting a live wire or in some cases an open or defective electric socket. The In- stitute for Safer Living of the Ameri- can Mutual Liability Insurance Co. says: Act fast! Any hesitation may mean electrocution. (1) Don't touch victim or wire. Knock the wire away with a non-conductor such as a broom, or stick. (2) or, clothing may be used to loop over wire and pull away from the victim. (3) When contact has been broken, apply artificial respiration. Meanwhile have someone call a doctor.
