Harbor Improvement The Suffolk County dredge \Nissequogue' and its crew - of men began the dredging of North- port Harbor this week after a short delay for an investigation of possible damage to shellish and wildiife, The purposes for the dredging are varied. One. it will provide a greater area for the mourng of boats, Two, to make a 300 foot channel from the end of the ox- isting channel to the Head of the Harbor. Three, to prepare for a Marina just south of the Long Island Light Company's power plant at the Head of the Harbor. Lastly, as was stated by Mr. Mc- Fadden. Engineer of the Town of Huntington, to give the taxpay- ers what they are paying for ', The dredging, now underway, will take eight to nine months be- fore completion. A member of the Northport Village Harbor Com- mussion, | who wishes to remain anonymous, announced this week that the dredging would have been delayed for another eight years if the \Nissequogue\ had not been alluwed to go to work ths week.
