Thursday , October 2<Jr, 18S0. 1 H E R K M E N X I O N . — The last week of Politics. — To-morrow will be a gala day. — Yates has got a plate glass front. — Republican meeting at Pavilion to-morrow night. — Great attractions at the opera house to night. — The small boy wants to know if we want any more rats. — The first paper printed in Bata via was the Cornucopia-. — Conkling passed through Ba tavia. last night on the 11:30. — The Band with the New O r leans Ministrels are first-class. — Baird’s New Orleans Minstrels at the opera house this evening. — Rochester was crowded yester- dav to hdar Conkling speak. — Next Wednesday either one party or the other will look sick. — A Fruit Evapnrating establish ment burned at Le Roy last night. — Wild geese are going south. Batavia sportsmen are on the look out. — It is requested that all good Democrats will illuminate to morrow night. — John G'iddiugs received a case of tobacco to-day containing 320 pounds. — Joe. says if he can help it there will be no Chinese “ Buss Drivers” in Batavia. — Owing to illness, Dr. David son has been obliged to go to Can* andaigua. — The parade to-morrow will be composed wholly of men from Gen esee County. — In case of fire the rope to the fire bell can not be leached it should be attended to. — The Batavia band went to Buf falo this morning and will partici pate in the parade there this even ing. — The Indians who were arrested for shooting a cow gave bail yester day to appear before the grand jury. — Speeches will be made to-mor row atEllicott hall, the opera house and from the stands which will be erected. — The Herkimer county glee club who sang at the Cincinnati convention, will enliven the meet ing here to morrow. — Peter Tompkins went out hunting yesterday and brought home one of the finest woodcock we have seen this season, -~A small sized audience assem bled at the depot to-day noon to see General Grant. He came out on the rear platform of the car but said nothing. — At the Batavia fair a 2,400 pound steer was ridden around the track by a man seventy-seven years old. The amount of damage done the track is not stated. —Mayvilh Sentinel. Alva, you are terrible slow. — McCulley and Bergan,\vho were arrested a week or so ago, charged, with throwing stones at a republi can procession, have been discharg ed by Justice Johnson, W. C. Wat* son, one of the attorneys, having withdrawn the complaint. • — The clog dancing at Baird’s New Orleans Minstrels to-night is executed b y f c r skillful dancers up on marble pedestals, one foot square, and four feet from the stage, mak ing one of the most picturesque terpsicporean performances ever witnessed. — A new firm in Batavia took a. novel way of advertising.
