The Rochester papers have for the past few days been making light of the misfortunes of a blind boy who is a student in the Institution for the Blind here The boy’s name is William Blawis, and his home is in Jamestown, this State. Last summer he attended the Sunday School Convention at Chautauqua Lake, and, so he told the Roches ter officers, became enamored of a Rochester school teacher, whose voice charmed him. The boy has been an inmate of the Institution during the school year, for the past two or three years. He was missed from the Institution Monday noon and at about 5 o'clock Tuesday morning he was found by some of ficers in Rochester, in the depot passage way, cold and hungry, and in a most forlorn condition. He requested them to shuw him into the waiting room of the depot, which request was complied with, and then the matter passed irom their mind until about 3 o ’clock in the afternoon, when one of the of ficers was told that a blind man, who needed attention, had been sitting in the waiting room all day. The officer accordingly went to him, and then and there the yc^ung man poured forth the story of his love and the mission that brought him to Rochester. He was anx ious to go at once to the residence of the lady, but the officer not knowing whether it wuuld be agree able to her concluded to make in quiries first. The young lady was accordingly visited and singular to say, did not appear anxious to mest her acquaintance of the summer before. * The young man took this rebuff remarkably well, and a free pass being given him he was put in charge oí the conductor, and brought to Batavia. The officers of the Institution here are inclined to discredit the story of his love, as published in the Rochester papers. If there is any truth in it, considering his unfortu nate condition, it seems cruel to make him the butt for ridicule. If it is so, the case is a sad one, and we hope that under the kind influ ence of the officers of the institution he will soon forget his unfortunate passion. A R e v o l u t i o n a r y R e l i c . The powder horn which William Lewis wore in the play ol Rip Van Winkle Thursday night, belongs to J. S. Delano, of this place, and iias a history. And is tnereiure 103 years old, yet in an excellent state of preserva tion. It has been in Mr. Delanos' possession nearly fifty years.
