Northport is its officials, like Mayor Peter Nolan, out for a post-dinner stroll With his wife, Laure. \It's a real working village,\ said the five-term mayor. He knows that many who come to Northport are attracted by what he calls the \great restaurants,\ but fear- ing that too many restaurants can't succeed and may result in empty eater- ies, the village has enacted a moratori- um on food establishments. Some folks who moved come back. Sal Musumeci and his wife, J.anine, who moved from Northport to East Northport three years ago tour Main Street with their son, Joey~ 2. . Paula Bistany, who's lived in Hicksville and Deer Park, and Jim Lavaty, who's lived \everywhere moved to Northport just a week ago. \It's the closest place in the East Coast to California,\ said Lavaty, who admits to having lived in San Fran- cisco and Los Angeles. Janet Whitcomb, Rich Doyle and Reisa Zadikow enjoy Northport one more time .before leaving for a trip to France, \It's a little like living in a New England vii- Paul Vespe, Joe Panslnl and Brian Blatt; all from Northport High lage.~· said Whitcomb, \It's like Cheers, \added Doyle. \Like home,\ And everywhere you look, there are students, many from Northport High, John Glenn, and other surrounding schools. Ask them what they'll be doing after school closes, and the common answer is, \work.\ Some-perhaps the I ucky ones-will take trips, or like Patil Vespe, Joe Pansini and Brian Blatt, all 15, will play sports. Suzanne Marcoe said she would \re- lax,\ and Jessica Fantz will travel to Italy, but for Mary Dolan, Danielle Mazzeo and Mich.elle Traina, it's \work.\ Northport is water, and it's boats. Ask Harbor Master Bruce Adams what's hap- pening in Northport, and he'll rattle off a Marc Sallman, Mike Hagan and Chris Mele, students at the Northport Middle School schedule of activities from now to September. Officer Michael Callahan, who will man a marine patrol of the wa- ters, was busy getting his boat and equip- ment ready. Mayor Nolan said that while the streets are busy, \If the weather was 20 degrees warmer, you couldn't move through town.\ That will happen soon, as it does every summer. \. But today, now, in this month, in this season, Northport is the place to be. Those privileged to enjoy it without traffic jams and without the blare of horns can appreciate their moments even more.
