Mr. ^and Mrs. -Irving Schechter and family are enjoying, a two weeks,' motoring trip through Canada. One of Jack Posey's taxi cabs was very badly damaged last Sunday night when an out of town car crashed into it while it was parked on Larkfield kve- nue. • Mrs. Walter Hoschel of Tenth avenue has recovered from a few days' illness due to a sore throat. Robt. Davison, East Elwood avenue is suffering from injur- incurred in an automobile accident.- He was driving with John Moesch, also of E, Elwood avenue in the latter's car when another automobile, failing to come to a full stop at the sign at the intersection of Woodbury road with the Oyster Bay road, crashed into them. Mr.Moesch es- caped uninjured although his car was completely demolished. Arthur Messinger of Kings Park road is visiting with rela- tives in Illinois. Edwin Rabenstein and Karl Kirchbaum, Sr., were honored with a turkey and lobster dinner given by the employees of the iLong Island Lighting company last Friday evening at the Nine Acres in Elwood. Mr. Kirchbaum who retired from the Lighting Company in August was with that company for thirty-eight [ears. Mr. Rabenstein retired in. aeyed. dancing. About forty guests were present, Mrs. Allen Broxson is spend- ing a weeks vacation at Shelter Island with a friend. Allen Broxson is spending a week with his mother Mrs. Wm. Broxsom of Central avenue, Huntington. James Baross celebrated his seventeenth birthday Wednes- day at his home in Greenlawn. Enjoy the parade, the picnic, or the visiting guests at home. Here are recipes that will fit in- to any kind of a Labor Day you may be planning — or any other day when you want delicious dainties without labor: Quick-Frozen Scallops Here's a bit of ocean goodness that's a treat, whether you live hundreds of miles inland or at the surfline. For quick-frozen foods are all ready to cook or serve when you take them from their cartons and thaw them; and they were chosen for their sweet, delicate flavor and tender quality when, they were quick-frozen. Here is a quick, easy way to serve quick-frozen scallops. Place scallops in greased broiling pan, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt and pep- per. Broil at medium heat 7 minutes. Turn scallops, top with bacon, and broil 10 minutes, turning bacon after 5 minutes. Lemon Gelatine Ring Salad 2 tablespoons (2 envelopes) gelatine ^ cup cold water Soak 5 minutes. Add: cups boiling water ^ cup lemon juice cup sugar Few grains salt 2: cups cottage cheese Pour into a 9-inch oiled, ring mold. Chill. Unmold on serving plate. Fill center•'of ring with: 2 ctips orange segments 1 cup seeded grapes Garnish with mint or lettuce hearts and small clusters of grapes. Serve- with Lemon Mayonnaise. Serves 8. Magic Blackberry Refrigerator Cake cups (1 can) sweetened condensed milk cup lemon juice teaspoon lemon extract 2 cups fresh blackberries 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten 24 vanilla wafers Blend together sweetened condefised milk, lemon juice and lemon extract. Stir until mixture thickens. Add black- berries. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture. Line narrow oblong pan with wax paper; cover with filling. Add layer of vanilla wafers, alternating in this way until filling is used; finish- ing with layer of wafers. Chill in re- frigerator 12 hours or longer. To serve, turn out on small platter and carefully remove wax paper. Cut in slices and s€rve plain or with whipped cream. Serves 8. For blueberry refrigerator cake, use 2 cups blueberries in place of blacl^erries. Picnic Beans 1 1-pound 14-ounce can baked beans with molasses and pork 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar Dash of salt teaspoon dry mustard 1 14-ounce can Hawaiian pineapple gems 2 tablespoons sirup drained from gems 4 slices bacon, if desired. Pour beans into an oven casserole or 4 individual casseroles. Add brown sugar, salt, mustard, pineapple gems which have been drained and 2 table- spoons of the pineapple sirup. Mix well, cover and bake in a moderately hot oven (375° F.) for 25 to 30 minutes or until beans are very hot. Beans may be topped with bacon slices before plac- ing in the oven, if desired. Wrap cas- serole in heavy layer of newspapers be- fore placing in picnic basket. This, will keep beans warm for one to two hours. Yield: 4 generous servings. Holiday Coffee You can urge ypur Labor Day guests to indulge in second cups of coffee with- out worrying over sleeping problem? if you serve the decaffeinated kind. For a spicy novelty, place a piece of stick cin- namon on each saucer to use instead of a spoon for stirring. Use one well rounded tablespoon drip grind decaffeinated cofEee for each cup pint) of boiling water. Preheat drip cofEee pot. Put coffee in upper compart- ment of pot. Pour fresh, briskly boil- ing water over it. Cover and let stand in warm place until all water has dripped through once. Remove upper compartment and cover pot. Serve, The final arrangements have been made to make the coming Town Volunteer Firemen's tour- nament one of the finest events ever to be held in the Township. It will be held on Fourth street -East Northport on Labor Day, September 2 and beginning with ^ di=i at?|tonep^a.,and sid- ing with the Lu!^ \nent which will start at 2:15 p. m. The new' tedntest which has been added this year is the Bucket Brigade contest. It will be limited to firemen of 40 years of age or over. With 12 men in the contest said contestants to run 25 feet from the starting line to the tank (which will be placed near the hydrant) then they will pick up the buckets and run 25 feet and throw water into a barrel which is to be placed 35 feet from the tank. If any of the contestants steps over the line, located 10 feet back from the barrel, the department will be disqualified. The time to be taken when the water issues from spout outlet of the barrel. The main part of this contest is that practicing at any time will disqualify contest- ants and that the buckets will be supplied by the Tournament Committee and the contestants will not know the size or weight of the buckets until the day of the tournament. The chairman for the tourna- ment as appointed by the Ex- empt Volunteer Firemen's Asso- ciation of the Township of Hunt- ington, Inc., who are sponsoring the tournament, for the firemen of the Township of Huntington,, is Joseph Cermak of East North- port; others on committee are: Vice chairman Fred Roselle of Halesite, Secretary, Archie J. Brooks, of Huntington, Ass't Sec'y Ansel Mason of Halesite and Treasurer 'Albert Palmer of Halesite.
