Senior Citizens Update At the March 6 business meeting of the Chazy Senior Citizens Clu b, Tom Schultz of the El derly Drug Gui dance Program at the Platts burgh Community Crisis Center, gave an informative talk on drugs an d the el derly. The clu b will hoi d a potluck St. Patrick's birth day party on Thursday, March 11, at 1 p.m. in the Town Hall. Mem bers are urge d to wear a bit of green! The next card party will be hel d on Tuesday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. . ,by Emily Caserne C HAZY-Satur day, Jahuafy 30,1982, was a very special evening in the history of Chazy^for it was oh that day that three Chazy boys attaine d the highest rank in Boy Scout- ing and were awarded the mtemauonaltytkriown Eagle ba dges in a ceremony held in theauditonum of the Chazy Central Rural School Oyer 100 persons, including par- ents, relatives of the Scouts, an dfriends, along with many dignitaries were in attendance Thus was the first tune in twenty-two years that the Eagle status ha d been reache d in this Town. v Recipients of this coveted award were: Carter Favreau, son of Donal d an d Ma delihe Favreau; John Martin, son of Willar d an d Phyllis Martin; and Frank Patnau de, Jr., son of Frank an d Ann Patnau de, all of Chazy. Serving as Master of Ceremonies for theevent was James M. Go blet, an Eagle Scout an d scoutmaster for Troop #88 at Platts burgh Air Force Base. He recite d a poem which described the Eagle emblem as symbolizing honor and truth and then, during a candlelighting ceremony, he explaine d the meanings of the re d, white an d blue colors of the ri boon on the Eagle ba dge. After the can di date recognition, E dwar d Trom bly, Dis- trict Scout Commissioner, gave a report of the Eagle Scout Progress Review Board and offered his congratulations to the three boys. Walter W. Laramie, who was Chazy's last Eagle Scout in 1959, welcomed the new Eagles. He pointed out that only one percent of Scouts attain that rank, and it is an award that is meaningful throughout one's adult life. The boys' Scoutmaster, William Cluley, gave the scout- ing history of each candidate. John Martin, a freshman at Chazy Central Rural School, became a Boy Scout on Jan. 12, 1978. He has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, librarian, scri be, quartermaster, assistant senior patrol lea der, an d is currently senior patrol lea der. He also serve d as den chief for Chazy Cu b Scouts an d as a mem ber of the Boy Scouts Color Guard for the Chazy Lions Clu b 25th anniversary. In 1981, John was elected to the Order of the Arrow. In Lions Clu b's25th anniversary He completed troop leader training m 1980.,Last year he waselectedtolhe Order of the Arrow He has at ten de d Camp Bedfor d each year, as well as all the Camporees Last summer, he also atten ded the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia The highlight of the evening was the actual pinning of the badges on me three Scouts and then each of diem, m turn, pinned a miniature version of that badge on their mothers, and a miniature tie tack on their fathers, all of whom were on stage with their sons at this time. The fathers gave their sons Eagle Scout certificates. Presentations were ma de to the boys from the Russell B. Childs Post of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1418-Great Chazy River. Congratulatory letters were from the following: Presi- dent Reagan, read by Town Supervisor Harold Jubert; Gov. Hugh Carey, read by Judge Glen Latremore; and Congressman David Martin, read by teacher David Mar- tin; and also from Sen. Ronald Stafford, read by Frank Dowd, scoutmaster of the Mooers Boy Scouts, and from the National Presi dent of the Boy Scouts of America, rea d by Goblet. Two special presentations were made: Scoutmaster Clukey presente d each boy with an inscri be d placque an d Donal d Favreau gave each Eagle a placque with the Eagle Scout invitation inscribed on it. Each new Eagle commented on his new status: Carter Favreau was grateful for help from his lea ders. He felt it was important to attend all meetings and leadership schools. John Martin thanked his family for their support and his counselors, inclu ding Mr. Goblet, who motivated die boys very enthusiastically. Frank Patnau de, Jr., remarke d dial Scouting ha d given him a code of conduct and prepared him to meet the challenges of the future. He has served as scribe, patrol leader, quartermaster, and a senior patrol lea der. For the past two years, he has been junior assistant scoutmaster for Troop #38. He also serve d as den chief for Chazy Cu b Scouts an d was a mem ber of the Boy Scouts Color Guar d for the Chazy Lions Clu b's 25th Anniversary. He was elected to the Order of the Arrow in 1980. Favreau also completed troop leader training and attended Camp Be dfor d each year as well as all Camporees. He too went to the National Boy Scout Jam boree in Virginia. Frank Patnau de, a freshman at Chazy Central Rural School an d the youngest Eagle Scout in Chazy's history, became a Scout on Jan. 12, 1978. Kindergarten Registration at Chazy Registration for Chazy Central Rural School's Sep-, tern ber kindergarten class is scheduled for Thursday, March 25th, at 1:00 in Room 114. Chil dren five years ol d on or before Decern ber 1, 1982, are eligible. Parents are being asked to bring the child's birth certificate or other legal proof of age. Registration and health forms have been maile d to par- ents of eligi ble chil dren. Anyone whip hasn't received the forms may obtain them by calling the elementary school office at 846-7212. A parent orientation program is planned and Elemen- tary School Principal Gor don Dragoon asks parents not to bring their chil dren.
