APRIL 28, 1966 TEN CENTS Junior Prom The annual Ju:aior Prom at the Chatnplain Central School was heldFriday evening, April 22, in the Junior-Senior High School Gymnasium.Music was furnished by \The Knight Kaps\ and feat- ured an excellent vocalist. The theme of the Prom was \Southern Reverie\ and the gym was beautifully decorated in pastel shades which appropriately car- ried out the theme. The centerpiece, designed and built by Mr. Raymond Marleau and his shop classes, was truly a work of art—a classic white col- umned, green latticed summer- house, complete with ivy and No Electricity For RP-C'plain 3 Hrs. Apr. 30 Residentswill be without elec- tricity in the villages of Rouses Point and Champlain on April 30 between the hours of 1 a. m. and 3 a. m. weather permitting. G. F. Belisle Transferred to Portland, Me. Mr. G.F. Belisle, agent at the Canadian National Railroad in Rouses Point for the pasf two years, has been transferred to Portland, Maine where he will assume the position of General Agent and Yardmaster. Mrs. Belisle and children will remain here until the close of the school session in June. TheBelisles have been living in the Fournier home on Champlain St. during their stay here, and will make their -see BELISLE inside back page Champiain Village Board Proceedings By JUNE WCOTTON Sixteen home owners attended the meeting of the Village Board of Trustees Tuesday night with :i petition signed by all residents of Moore Streei d e m a nding new sidewalks and repaying of the street. Irate taxpayers, headed by Ronald Trembley, who started the petition, said nothing had been done to the street in years and that the destruction to the road was caused by huge trucks going along the street when the Nortliway was built 5 years ago. They said the sidewalks were in a dangerous condition and felt that Moore Street should be in- cluded in the sidewalk and pav- ing program this year. Mr. Duroe points out, -sec 4-11 inside back page Area Boys Urged to Enter Soap Box Derby The Champlain-Rouses Point Jaycees will hold an orientation meeting at 7:00 p. m. on Thurs- day evening, May 7, at the Cham- plain Central School for any boy from the Champlain-Rouses Point - Chazy area between the ages of 11 and 15 inclusive who would like to learn how to participate in the Soap Box Derby, The Soap Box Derby, sponsored by Santa Chevrolet of Plattsburgh and the Plattsburgh Jaycee;;, will be held on Sunday, July 3, in Plattsburgh. The orientation meeting will consist of a general information period on all phases of the Soap Box Derby operation and a movie on the 1963 All American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. Fa- thers are encouraged to attend the meeting with their sons for strong paternal support and en- couragement are a great boost to young boys. Carl Fresn, Jr. was contracted by the Mousseau concern to dis- mantle the remains of the build- ings which they purchased fol- lowing the fire. The new building will face on Area Chamber To Hold First Annual Banquet The Rouses Point-Champlain Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual banquet on Satur- day, April 30, at the Anchorage Hotel at 7:30 p.m. Senator Ronald Stafford, As- semblyman Louis Wolfe, Mayor Leo Letourneau of Rouses Point and Mayor David Southwick of Champlain and other public of- ficials have been invited to at- tend. Speaker for the evening will be Mr. Glen Bannerman, who will speak on the highlights of the Expo 67 and the impact it will have on our area. A roast beef dinner will be served. Beekmantown Resident Cured of Cancer During the month, of April the American Cancer Society has been soliciting funds and urging everyone to see their physician immed ately if any of the seven danger signals of Cancer should appear. We are telling tliis story about a Cancer victim who has been cored in hopes that it may also help someone else. \As far as we're concerned, you're cured of cancer,\ the doctors told Mrs. Pearl Webber, 41, of Beekmantown. Only a year before, Mrs. Webber had sat in front of that same desk wait- ing for the news she knew was in- evitable-that she was a victim of cancer. Two days before this hur- ried visit t o her doctor, Mrs. Webber, mother of two teenage daughters, Susan and Jane, and one married daughter, Mrs. Joan Dominy, sat reading \The Seven Danger Signals of Cancer\ with her husband, Harry. A sudden quietness came over her, Mrs. Webber said, when she realized she had one of these danger signals.
